If you had the time to walk across one U.S. state...?
...what state would it be, and why? And would you go north-south or east-west?
Assume that you have some time off and quoting Simon and Garfunkel, you want to walk off and look for America with a handful of Mrs. Wagner's pies. Also assume that you are in your current conditioning. Take into account climate, scenery, wild animal attacks, proximity to McDonald's, and any other relevant criteria. |
Good question. I know frazod's would be Kansas, east to west.
Gotta go with Alaska, in the middle of summer, East or Southeast across the state to West or Southwest and then a boat ride down the West coast...
I would choose Hawaii, I like a challenge.
Gotta go with Rhode Island.
California, south to north.
Montana. North-South. Glacier to Yellowstone.
None of them. Walking is the slowest, most boring thing you can do. **** walking.

Oddly, it seems like Michigan south to north would be kind of interesting. You'd need a place with enough small towns to get from place to place, and I think it would work. You could also walk along Lake Michigan or Superior a good stretch of the way, and the Upper Pensinsula would be a nice reward at the end.
Florida, North Carolina, and Massachusetts could also be interesting (N-S for FL and W-E for the others). |
California S to N along the coast. Good weather and scenery. Likely to run into interesting people. It's a nice long walk, so that implies that I have an abundance of leisure time.

I picked Rhode Island, because, well, I am lazy :/

I'd go Cali or Texas. They have good weather and good variety. There's ocean, beach, forest, plains, mountains, deserts, and forests in both states.
Colorado. East to west.
