So, basically, you're saying that people think, once a relationship is consummated, it's all downhill from there?

I call bullshit. You want to see tension? Have 'em get ****ing married. THEN you'll see some tension! :p

WoodDraw 04-20-2011 12:08 AM

I hope Castle's daughter becomes a meth addict in the final, or something. That girl, and every story line involving her, sucks.

I'm not saying that at all. It doesn't have anything in the world to do with what happens when a relationship is consummated. It has to do with changing (and resolving) the thing that's kept people tuning in in the first place. Shows historically don't do a very good job of presenting new tension to replace the old. They lose that spark that kept them interesting. Which on Castle is usually a look or a conversation in the last minute of an episode. It's about stringing people along (the viewers I mean), occasionally pulling the rug out from under them with stuff like Castle starting to date his ex right when Beckett's ready to go, or with her dating a variety of guys right when he figures out how he feels. Their relationship is ultimately the heart of the show, and when it changes, the show is going to change. And that kind of change doesn't usually end up being a good one for a tv show. Maybe it'll be different with Castle. If they end up going that route.

luv 05-02-2011 04:20 PM

Home sick tonight.

Anyone know where I might find a stream of this?

Baby Lee 05-03-2011 04:00 AM

That scene with Stana when she talks about the 'actress' missing the call in front of 'Estosito and Ryan?' HAAAAAWWWWTTT!! Feel like I'd imagine teen girls in the 80s did when Mr. Cruise put on Wayfarers in Risky Business.

luv 05-03-2011 07:40 PM

I am officially on the two of them getting together bandwagon. I so want them, but only if they can do it without it ruining the show.

They're softening her character and letting Stana's hotness ooze through more and more. Makes sense. If you want to build romantic chemistry and tension between two leads, you need to make both leads attractive and likable not only to each other but to the audience. There have been many more scenes of Katic in dressy clothes, or--like in this past episode--coming out of the water in slo-mo in a bikini. :hump:

Yeah, and they also let the hair down too.

You know a show's firing on all cylindars when you can know exactly what's going to happen (Roy was telegraphed a long time ago, both of the things tonight) and it's still a great episode.

I actually thought the end was a little overboard. They don't need shock value at this point. But I guess that was the only way to get it out of him.

Mr. Laz 05-17-2011 10:46 AM

don't really understand the point, I guess maybe they really thought they might get cancelled.

I don't think it has been in any danger of cancellation since the first season (if ever). It's one of abc's highest-rated shows.

Speaking of ratings, overnights on the finale are huge, 2nd highest in the show's history.

keg in kc 09-19-2011 10:12 PM

They didn't do it too soon. It creates a mirror between her and Castle. They're each lying to the other (her about memory, him about her mother's case), they're each struggling with being together/apart, and they're both struggling with the changes in their lives and in themselves. I thought it was very well done. And I'm a big Michael Dorn fan. It's always good to see him out of Klingon makeup.

Yeah, I can see that. I wouldn't have waited long for it to come out. I was thinking maybe a few shows before something triggered (no pun intended...lol) her memory. It just seemed like that scene was thrown in last minute to me. Looks like Castle might be digging his own grave by looking into things on his own. That's going to add a whole other angle to the show. I like it.

I think her admission about her memory makes the scene on the swingset much more than it appeared. She stated she had to solve this mystery because she could not have the kind of relationship she wanted until then. After her admission, it's clear she was talking about Castle.

Nathan Fillion on Letterman tonight.

luv 10-04-2011 07:52 AM

I actually like the new Chief. She adds a little resistance, and it's fun trying to watch him win her over or try to white knight Kate when she's getting on to her. I also think it will add a new dimension to Kate's character. The old captain always praised her, and now she's really having to show how good she is.

Also looking forward to seeing what looks to be going on with Ryan in next week's episode. He's got the naive, good boy image. Maybe this will add some depth to his character. Or, no one has heard any rumors about him possibly leaving the show, have you?

JD10367 10-29-2012 08:48 PM

So far, I'm liking how they're handling the relationship. Shows are afraid of getting their romantic leads together thanks to the "Moonlighting curse". The sexual tension and bantering of a male-female show seems to get stalled when they finally consummate. But it's nice to see shows trying to demonstrate that, yes, once a man and woman finally sleep together, they can still have a relationship. The only show on TV that seemed to do this well was the old show "Hart To Hart" (Stefanie Powers and Robert Wagner). "Bones" isn't handling it as well; they moved too quickly from "sexual tension" to "they're living together and have a baby", and the show seems to have lost something. "Castle", on the other hand, is keeping more of the romance and humor. Maybe it's because, on "Castle", they built up the sexual tension longer and better; on "Bones", the relationship was almost cold, and they made the mistake of never actually showing Bones and Brennan consummate the relationship. They only talked about it afterwards, leaving viewers to go, "Wait, what? After all this time, they finally 'did it' and we didn't even see it or know about it?" Stupid move on their part. And is it just me, or is Stana Katic even more attractive this season? Longer hair in a newer style, and they're letting her look more feminine (not to mention she smiles more, and is shown in various states of undress).

keg in kc 10-29-2012 09:57 PM

Yeah, I think this season has been really, really done well so far.

I think a problem many shows have is that, once they get the leads together, they forget WHY the leads were interested in each other in the first place. So far, "Castle" is doing a good job of showing that they're both still interested in each other (both physically and emotionally) and they've already put in a few scenes with good impact in that direction. For example, in the recent episode about the dead weathergirl, Beckett catches Castle playing around with the blue-screen setup. He doesn't know she's watching him act like a big kid, and as she's watching him she smiles (which I interpret as a reminder to her of why she likes him in the first place, 'cause he's a bit of a goofball man-child). Likewise, at the start of that episode (or the one before), Beckett is in a bra trying to pick out a shirt to wear to work, and Castle keeps telling her "no, not that one", and she realizes he's only doing it to see her keep taking her shirt off. :thumb:

I was super scared that they'd be stuck with the Moonlighting curse, but there was really no more ways to keep them apart. I liked the episode where the parents and them got together for dinner. When they were in hiding and she talked to him about her concerns about their relationship. And in the last episode where they both have their reasons for their traditions or Christmas, but are willing to break them at the end. They're not together 24/7. They still show their differences and how they're adjusting.
