Hey, Jaguars fans, would you be cool with trading down for...
By Hays Carlyon (Hays Carlyon's Blog) February 25, 2014 - 10:43am

Let's have some fun with a ridiculously hypothetical draft scenario.

While I was covering the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, I posted the following question on Twitter to Jaguars fans.

"How would you feel if the Jaguars traded down 29 spots to No. 32 for Seattle's entire draft?"

How could this situation present itself? Let's say quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles go 1-2 in May's draft and the Jaguars have no interest in taking Johnny Manziel at No. 3. Seattle is so stocked, the Seahawks could view defensive end Jadeveon Clowney as an addition worthy of giving up six picks to acquire.

This trade would give the Jaguars a staggering 16 picks in the draft, including three in the fourth round and four in the fifth round.

Now, could 16 draft picks make the roster? That's unlikely, but general manager Dave Caldwell could unload some for picks in the 2015 draft -- a fourth-rounder now for a third-rounder next year and so forth.

This is supposed to be the deepest draft class in years. The Jaguars would have five picks in the first three rounds and 12 in the opening five rounds. Caldwell would be in total control of the final two days of the draft.

The drawback is 31 players come off the board before the Jaguars are up and they would be passing on Clowney.

So, what do you think?

You can select from the following three options:

A. Yes, the Jaguars need as many picks as possible.

B. No, the Jaguars need an elite talent at No. 3.

C. Hays Carlyon is an idiot.

I'll post results next week.

The Jags? It's a possibility.

All 16 pics would probably make the roster.

For instance....if they made that trade....they would have the following picks.

1st round - 1
2nd round - 2
3rd round - 1
4th round - 3
5th round - 4
6th round - 2
7th round - 1

The funny thing is.....they'd only be getting a 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th for their top 3 pick.

Yeah because an organization like the Seahawks that prides itself on striking it rich on late round picks and fostering competition clear into the deep reaches of the depth chart is going to trade all of their draft picks for one top pick. Totally awesome.

1st in with would you as a chiefs fan give your entire 2014 draft for #3?

If we had the #3 I'd want to trade down.

I'd trade up to get the #3 and then use it to trade back down. A #3 pick will get you a lot.
