7 round mock.

From everybody's favorite prognosticator, WalterFootball:

http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2013.php

1. Kansas City Chiefs: Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M

There's no way this pick is locked in yet, but it seems to be moving in that direction pretty rapidly with Luke Joeckel. Some speculated that the Chiefs would go with a defensive lineman or even a cornerback with this selection in the wake of Branden Albert's franchise tag, but that's no longer the case after right tackle Eric Winston was released last month.

It's unusual to pick a right tackle No. 1 overall, but this isn't a typical situation. Albert was franchised, so he'll be around for just one season. Joeckel could start at right tackle and then take over the blind side in 2014 and beyond. Also, there's no guarantee that Albert will even be on the roster come September. Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star told Pro Football Talk that there's a chance Albert will be traded this offseason. That would make lots of sense, given that the Chiefs just dealt two second-day selections to the 49ers.

There's been some speculation that Kansas City might prefer Eric Fisher over Joeckel, but that doesn't appear to be the case. The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport revealed that the Chiefs are very high on Joeckel. My own Kansas City source said the same thing to me. Also, Adam Schefter tweeted the following over the weekend (you can see this in the 2013 NFL Draft Rumors section: "After today's Pro Day at Texas A&M, scouts believe it's hard to imagine the Chiefs bypassing OT Luke Joeckel with No. 1 overall pick."

OTHER 2013 NFL DRAFT POSSIBILITY: Eric Fisher, OT - The Chiefs may prefer the "other" tackle.

54. Kansas City Chiefs: Kiko Alonso, ILB, Oregon

I'm giving Kansas City this pick for the rumored Branden Albert trade. It sounds like it's going to happen very soon.

The Chiefs pretty much sent everyone to Oregon's Pro Day, so Andy Reid had a good look at Kiko Alonso, who could perhaps be Jovan Belcher's replacement.

63. Kansas City Chiefs: David Bakhtiari, OT/G, Colorado

The Chiefs keep getting rid of their tackles, so I guess I have to keep mocking them players at that position.

96. Kansas City Chiefs: Ryan Swope, WR, Texas A&M

The Chiefs re-signed Dwayne Bowe and added Donnie Avery, but they still need one more receiver for their new quarterback.

99. Kansas City Chiefs: Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU

No one should be surprised if Sam Montgomery falls to the fourth or fifth round. His comments about quitting and betting on football have drawn some serious red flags. However, he's the best player available and fills a big need for Kansas City.

The Chiefs need pass-rushing depth, and Montgomery fits the scheme well. Plus, Andy Reid has a history of giving chances to players with character issues.

134. Kansas City Chiefs: Latavius Murray, RB, Central Florida

The Chiefs lost Peyton Hillis, so they need a power back to complement Jamaal Charles.

170. Kansas City Chiefs: Devin Taylor, DE/OLB, South Carolina

The Chiefs like Dion Jordan, but won't take him No. 1 overall. Maybe they'll take another pass-rusher later.

204. Kansas City Chiefs: John Boyett, S, Oregon

The Chiefs could stand to add some depth in their secondary.

Round seven to be posted today. OP will be updated.

Terrible mock. I haven't felt this shortchanged since Bo's Pellini crapped out on his Monopoly bet obligation.

Oh ****. I didn't link to it.

Good call. :( The OP does reek of plagiarism.

The first six rounds of my mock are up. I'm posting the 7th today, but probably not until after work.

Here are the Chiefs Picks:
cornerblitz.com/2013/Mocks/Final/KC.aspx

1. Kansas City Chiefs
LT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M
I still think this pick is a mistake. Why the Chiefs decided to trade their serviceable left tackle (who has publicly stated he wants a long-term deal in Kansas City) for a second round pick only to use the first overall pick in the draft to replace him with someone who has never played a snap in the NFL is beyond me. I think it's bad asset management. Why not keep the player you have in place and use that first pick to fix your 27th-ranked run defense? Oh well. Joeckel has become the obvious pick with Albert off the team.

54. Kansas City Chiefs (from IND)
5T Margus Hunt, Southern Methodist
The Chiefs decided to trade away their left tackle so they could use the top overall selection on his replacement. Their defensive line still needs a boost, so why not use that pick they got for Albert on a 5-technique defensive end? Hunt racked up pretty good numbers as a 3-4 DE his senior year at SMU, and whoever drafts Hunt will hope he can develop into a dominant LE in an odd front.

63. Kansas City Chiefs
WRp Justin Hunter, Tennessee
Justin Hunter has his issues with open drops and doesn't get the best separation, but he's definitely a talented player who can use his big frame and Mickey Mouse gloves to beat corners to the ball. A really good wide receiver is going to fall to the third. I have that receiver being Hunter.

96 (Compensatory). Kansas City Chiefs
FS Bacarri Rambo, Georgia

99. Kansas City Chiefs
ILB Jon Bostic, Florida

134. Kansas City Chiefs
RB Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina

170. Kansas City Chiefs
RT Ricky Wagner, Wisconsin

204 (Compensatory). Kansas City Chiefs
OLB Joe Kruger, Utah
KC's starting rusher duo is scary, but they've got nothing behind them. Kruger is a high effort, talented player that will back-up on the left side.

Last pick is Eric Martin, OLB Nebraska (getting two depth OLBs)

They're paying Daniel $3 MM a year to be the 3rd QB?

CleveSteve 04-26-2013 08:13 AM

Well, a lot I picked was way off, but actually I got quite a few things right:
  • Got the first four players right, just the wrong order.
  • I had Miami trading their first taking a DE, just not Jordan.
  • I had the Vikings drafting Sharrif Floyd and Xavier Rhodes while trading all their picks until the 5th, but didn't have them also getting Patterson.
  • Had the Bills as the only team to draft a QB in the first, but had the wrong one.
  • Rams trading up for Austin from 16 then trading down from 22 to recoup a pick.
  • Kyle Long in the first
  • Packers drafting a 5T DE, just thought Jones would already be gone
  • Lions drafting a LDE, just wrong one
  • Oakland trading out of three with only extra pick this year is a second. I had them drafting Hayden, but with the second they gained, not in the first.
  • Eifert "slipping" past 20.
  • Atlanta trading up, but I was way off on that one
  • got 16/32 position : pick combos right.
  • got 9 offensive linemen in the first right
