Hits the airwaves on May 11.

From Hollywood Reporter:
Quote:

Showtime's upcoming monster mash Penny Dreadful is set in 1891, but its themes are very modern.

The series, which stars Josh Hartnett and Eva Green, features a roster of classic monsters, including Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and Dracula and weave together the classic origin stories while exploring tones that the country is grappling with.

Penny Dreadful hails from three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, Skyfall, Gladiator), who wrote the pilot and executive produces alongside Academy Award winner Sam Mendes and Neal Street's Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road).

The first-time showrunner (Penny Dreadful is the screenwriter's first stab at TV) noted that he drew inspiration from the old Universal horror movies of the 1940s that mixed and matched characters such as the Wolfman and Frankenstein. "I wondered if there was a way to do that now and take these characters seriously," he said of the show's genesis.

Looks.... interesting. I will confess, I no longer get super excited for Showtime series after it came out how much executives insert themselves into the creative process.

On a sidenote I wonder if there will be an introduction of Captain Ahab/Ishmael

Since they mentioned that Proteus could've been a "Whaler"

If only there was a way to search for such information...

Or you could just, you know, answer the question for him.

I don't know the answer. I'd have to Google it.

Fire Me Boy! 06-24-2014 10:01 AM

Upon a search, which Rausch could have done himself, it looks like Sunday's episode was No. 6 of 8.

Hopefully you didn't strain anything during that herculean effort.

Suck it. It was someone else being too lazy to Google, not like I had the info and refused to give it.

Not really trying. Genuinely confused why you're bagging on me instead of the guy who came asking a question that could have easily been answered with a 3-second Google search. Makes no sense to me. You seem to have buddy-buddy relationship with Rausch, such that you feel the need to harass me for implying he was lazy. So whatever.

I was just ****ing with you to keep myself entertained while I clean my apartment. Or, rather, while I surf the 'net while thinking I should be cleaning my apartment.

OK then. Carry on.

Finally watching the pilot. Really like this so far.

keg in kc 06-29-2014 10:19 PM

Solid first season.

I knew he was something, but werewolf never entered my mind. Good on them for making the obvious less... obvious.

Already renewed for a second, 10-ep season.

Cannibal 07-06-2014 08:18 AM

Watched every episode back to back yesterday. I really enjoyed it. Of particular interest to me is the Frankenstein storyline.

Deberg_1990 07-06-2014 08:31 AM

Josh Harnett? Havent seen him in anything since Pearl harbor.

Remember when they were at the zoo and he calmed the ravenous dogs without a word? That was the give away...

Couldn't get through the second episode. Tired of these supernatural shows I guess.

Then, sorry to drift off topic, you missed out on a great movie he did, Lucky Number Slevin.

One of those movies I can pop on whenever and still enjoy no matter how many times I've seen it.

BigRedChief 07-15-2014 10:15 AM

I tried it and just not my bag. Thought you should know this information.

I've started it and want to like it. I'm through the first 3, but haven't found it too compelling, but I'm down with the nature and subject of the show, so I'll probably give it at least through season 2, because 8 episodes is a short sample sometimes for a show to find it's legs.

Now, Silicon Valley, also had a short "tester" season that premiered this summer had me hooked after the 1st episode.

I never finished the first season. It's still sitting on the DVR.

saphojunkie 01-22-2015 08:27 PM

This show is ****ing so badass. There is not a single wink to the audience. Played so straight, which is what makes it so much better than the True Bloods of the world.

It's like Walking Dead, but you don't just want to kill yourself every week.
