The Incestuous World Of Rock-Star Collaborations, On One Huge Chart

Pop Chart Lab has put together a new print titled "The Charted Connections of Rock," which shows how over 700 artists have collaborated on over 500 projects as an enormous web diagram. It's pretty dense, but useful for "six degrees of separation" games for the musically inclined. Color-coding refers to the role each musician played in each band. The full graphic is below, but it still might be a bit tough to read; you can see a much larger version here.

Just a quick look and they missed about a BILLION connections. Elvis Costello by himself? And where is that whore Michael McDonald?

Good idea. Poor execution.

I would have liked to have seen a three dimensional chart with many more data points. Ah well, at least Lou Reed was on there.

Ritchie Blackmore is literally missing like 20 connections.

Agreed. That sure looks like a lot of work, so i don't want to bag on the author too much...but ya...he missed a shitload of connections that i can see just at a single glance.
