Attic Fan Question

The Mrs. and I are getting an attic fan next week. Trouble is I don't know whether to get a direct driver or belt drive.

I hear belt drives are quieter but can require more maintenance. Are they that much quieter or is the difference negligible?

I have a Belt drive in my house that has been functioning for at least 20 years. only had to replace the belt once.

Is it 1980 again?

Same here except I haven't replaced the belt. It only gets used a few times a year, so it's not abused.

Why are you getting an attic fan?

Attic fans are great. Especially if you grow weed.

Wife had on in her old house and wants one. Says it's great for days like today where running the AC is too much but you still need a breeze

i can only remember replacing the belt once before the entire motor went out.

You will probably want to get a vent cover for winter so heat doesn't escape into the attic.

Attic truefan gif.

I have one in my house. It works great. I can't use it a lot of the time because I have allergies, and it sucks pollen into the house.

You mean a whole house fan.

That's correct but whenever I refer to it as such, most people have no clue of what I am talking about

That's why I dont use mine much, that and it makes my house dusty as hell. They make filters you can put on the outside of your window screen though, thinking about investing in a few.

If it's loud you go up there and make her scream when the kids are asleep...

?

Attic fans are made strictly to move hot air out of the attic. How are you guys pulling dust into your house?
