Today is the day

In about 2.5 hours I go in for my hernia surgury. I'm nervous as hell so send a few good thoughts my way.

Been working all night and haven't been able to eat or drink a thing since midnight and I feel crappy because of it. Oh, and to top it off, I managed to slam my right index finger in my car door last night before I came into work.

Great start eh? Can't even have a pain killer.:shake:

DeezNutz 01-18-2013 06:28 AM

Good luck, dude. Nothing to worry about. Been down that road before, too, and you'll be just fine.

Buehler445 01-18-2013 06:31 AM

Well, at least you didn't say the M work you have been stuck on lately. LMAO

007 01-18-2013 07:03 AM

Oh, for the record, don't ever smash your right index finger in a door. You use that finger for just about EVERYTHING.

Definitely shake the surgeon's hand prior to the surgery to ensure they are steady. Nothing worse than waking up with 2 balls less than you went out with.

In all seriousness, good luck.

A friend of mine had this done last year.

He has to go back in next week to have the mesh put in.

Something about when it is strangulated, like his was, they cannot use the mesh.

I have had 5 hernia surgerys over the years and compared to when they used stone knives and bear skins in the seventys today it's a peace of cake. You will be fine.

Glad you came through OK, Guru...Pain and hospitals are no fun (trust me, I know) but you'll get through it.

You're not already home, are you?

Been back since noon. just haven't gotten around to posting till now.

Being put under is a strange experience. you see a mask put over your face then all of the sudden you wake up in another room all patched up.

mikey23545 01-18-2013 11:32 PM

Wow...I would have thought for that kind of surgery you'd get an overnight stay.

Was it arthroscopic?

DJJasonp 01-18-2013 11:36 PM

would like to hear more about the post-op and recovery....

I had hernia surgery about 20 years ago....and it hurt like hell afterwards cuz I was sneezing with a cold (felt like knives in my groin each time I sneezed).

I now have another one on the other side that I've had for several years that I'm at the point where I cant put it off much longer...

Hoping technology has advanced.....I've heard some hernia surgeries now can be lathroscopic....??

007 01-18-2013 11:45 PM

Pretty straight forward in my case. Single incision for mesh and closed up. Op was done in under 45 minutes. Recover was about two hours though. Takes a while for the grogginess to lift enough to walk.

You are right about sneezes too. I have coughed a couple times and damn it hurts.

Yeah, I tend to prefer having the pain as a reminder to not do something stupid.

Been getting by on on pill but will take two when I go to bed.

I have drank this much water in a long time.

What hours does your surgeon work? Bankers hours? That's BS.
