Proposed change to horse collar rule...
NFL | League to re-visit horse collar rule
Wed, 22 Mar 2006 15:59:11 -0800 The Associated Press reports the NFL is going to look at a proposal that expands the rule put in place last year against "horse collar" tackles. That violation mandated flags only when a defensive player coming from behind got his hands inside the shoulder pads of a player with the ball. If it is expanded, it would extend that to tackles inside the shirt. www.kffl.com |
Here's a proposed change: call it. I saw way too many of those last year for a supposed illegal tackle.

Last year, I think it may have been against the Seahawks, Roy Williams himself blatantly horse collared a player right in front of a ref, who in turn did nothing.
The explaination given after the game was that it wasn't called because the player wasn't pulled backwards towards Williams. Even after any proposed rule change, I think it'll only be called if a player is hurt. |
How about during the Superbowl?

Yeah, I can't remember seeing it called once, because of the hand-in-the-pads thing.

I have an idea.
Why don't they just eliminate tackling altogether? |
