I attribute this to the fact that when we had satellite, I NEVER watched network television. The news and football games, that was it.

I've really gotten into "Criminal Minds" and "Psych" both of which are syndicated on our only local station (ION). I completely missed both of them the first time around so it's given me quite a bit of content to catch up on.

My mother-in-law is the real winner here. She watched more TV than any of us because she watches at night before bed. She was the most resistant to getting rid of satellite and now she watches more Netflix and Amazon than the rest of us in the house combined.

We definitely watch more TV since getting rid of Dish and going Netflix/XBMC only. The streams are pretty crappy sometimes, but SportsDevil on XBMC will usually deliver sporting events reliably.

Being able to sit down and binge watch a show is SOOOOO much more enjoyable to me than having to wait on episodes with a week between viewings.

I've talked to a lot of younger people, and these services are changing the way they view TV as well in much the same way that iPods changed albums in the music industry (though strangely in an opposite fashion). Kids basically get into a show, watch the whole thing on Netflix, then move on to another show to obsess over. The days of having 6-10 shows that you watch throughout the week are going away, imo, and services like Netflix with the way they release their own shows (release a whole season at once) recognize this.

Parker,

How do you deal with the "loss" of say live college sports? I love watching Big XII (KSU) and most of the games I want to watch are on some sort 'tiered' channel.

Haven't had to deal with it yet. I imagine it might be a setback for me since a lot of Iowa's games are on the B10 network.

That's exactly what's going on in our house. The MiL finished Carnivale and is starting in on Deadwood...
