NFL Instant Replay Review

Why does the referee need to go to a camera on the sideline to review?

Why can the NFL not implement a system in which a replay official in the booth reviews the plays in question and makes the call?

In watching these preseason games, the sideline review is adding unnecessary time to the the review process more than ever because of the new rules in place that calls for automatic reviews on TDs.

It is simply ridiculous to send the ref to the sidelines for these reviews.

Commercial time, I imagine.

That was the fastest correct response in CP history.

The ref on the ground needs to have the ability to change the call made by his crew himself. Can you imagine having a boss sitting on his ass in the booth overturning your calls for shits and giggles.

Yeah, then it would be just like the real work world we all deal with.

It would be better because he wouldn't have the ego incentive of not wanting to overturn himself. It would also be better because someone in a booth is going to be less influenced by an angry home crowd, coach yelling in his ear all game, etc than a field official.

And it would be faster.

This was the explanation given by the former head of NFL officiating on the Chiefs broadcast the other night. It's the officials who want it to be this way.

Will the booth official still determine if a replay is necessary in the last 2 minutes?

Okie_Apparition 08-14-2011 08:35 AM

We need the advantage of malfunctioning video equipment on the sideline/Josh McD

Yeah, the NHL system works a lot better with a couple of refs up in the booth to review plays.

Mr. Laz 08-14-2011 09:51 AM

because the candy ass refs will cry if somebody else is seen to be overruling them from the booth.

Apparently they now use 8 officials to call the game on the field. Why isn't that addiquit? Hope they don't get in the way of JC bursting down the field for a TD.
