AFCW - going into Week 3
So, it was good to see that the division was 3-0 vs the NFC this weekend (Den > NYG, KC > DAL, SD > PHI). And, 3-0 vs the NFCE to boot - very nice.
Broncos 2-0 Chiefs 2-0 Raiders 1-1 Chargers 1-1 Not bad after 2 weeks, but I'm still not too sold really on either the Raiders or the Chargers. Chargers should be 2-0, but they're not and are very helter skelter. The Raiders ... they lost to the Colts and then beat the Jaguars. The Jags account for 2 of the 6 total wins within our division. Week 3 - The Raiders (1-1) travel to the Broncos (2-0) and honestly, while the 'any given Sunday' mantra is alive and well, Denver should win this by a big margin and move to 3-0 setting up back to back games vs the NFCE (Eagles and then Dallas). Broncos have had 2 big wins after sputtering in the first half of both games... the Raiders can win, they've shocked Denver at home in recent years. No time to fall asleep or get lazy for the Broncos. The Chiefs (2-0) travel to Philly (1-1) - and this will be an interesting one as the Eagles can be explosive, but KC's defense is legit. Can the KC offense step it up? This is one where both Charles and Alex Smith need to be big. I think KC needs a statement win. The Jags suck and while Dallas has weapons, they have a mediocre record in recent years and losing at KC shouldn't have been a shock really. But, if KC wants that 'respect' and to quiet the doubters --- the offense needs to match the defense this week and make this a statement win. The Chargers (1-1) travel to the Titans (1-1) and oddly enough, the Titans have played fairly well. Both teams were bitten late vs the Texans, so anything goes I guess. This is a week where I honestly think the home teams prevail. There's a lot up for debate with KC/PHI and SD/TN ... and wouldn't be surprised if either/both AFCW teams won. However, I think the home teams pretect their yards this week. It would be good though to see KC and SD win in week 3. You? |
Donks have not beaten the teams as so much as their competition have beaten themselves. Giants and ravens both handed those game to them on a silver platter with turnovers, bad coaching and quitting the seconde half. You just can't make mistakes against the donks period-they will make you pay most every time. Faders have a history of coughing up games and are in for a beat down.
Manning has to love throwing 1 yard passes and getting 30 YAC most every play-lol. |
Gimme KC, Tennessee, and Denver
|
Ah, so those mistakes and the wins were all gifts... got it.

One thing I've learned from watching Manning play every week the last couple years (I live in Bronco country after all) is that Manning's biggest strength may not be his arm strength or his accuracy. Instead, I think he's perhaps the best to ever play the game at finding guys who are open and can get some good YAC. If you watch their games, he throws a lot of passes that just plain don't look great. But then the next play, he turns around and throws a wobbler to a guy with no one within 15 yards of him. Anyway, this turned into a bit of a ramble, but the point is I think we're fooling ourselves if we think that the Broncos are just getting lucky. They're a VERY solid team this year unless Manning goes down to injury. Whether they can win in the playoffs or not, I'm less confident about. |
Our offense really could have put the game away yesterday with one more score in the fourth quarter. Defense was holding Romo pretty well and getting crap calls with pass interference.
Our offense had a perfect first drive to score but pretty much laid an egg for the rest of the game. I give them credit for finishing off the game by controlling the clock, but I want to see them score and put more pressure on offenses and giving our D more confidence. Offense needs to step ip I love our defense. |
After the first two games my biggest concern is that Reid won't properly use Charles, who is our best weapon.

Yesterday... I'm not sure. The Dallas front 7 is really freaking good. On top of that, Albert was kind of hurt and so was Fasano. That doesn't help at all. We ran the ball when it mattered to kill the clock, but I agree with you in general. Charles's run #'s aren't high, and I don't think they'll get there any time this season. He is targeted a lot more as a WR though! |
AFC West might not be so shitty after all
|
What is it with Chiefs fans pretending Manning can only throw for one yard and apparently has the spine of a small infant?
|
donkeys look good. peyton is a surgeon. like daface said, his arm isnt anything special but brain behind his big ass 5 head is why hes one of the best to ever play the qb position. Theyll rape the fade and itll be over by half time.
Our game is gonna be a tight one. very excited for it. This is our statement game to show the nation we finally do have a legit team. Really need to use jamal more. He needs the ball in his hands. |

At first, many were saying the receivers were average and it was because of Maning they're putting up big numbers. Sounds like some (maybe not you) want to suggest that it's actually now more the receivers and not so much Peyton that are actually doing all the work. Peyton's made some nice passes - in the first two games though, way too many drops. Decker needs to get his head right, I think he spent too much time with his hot wife and the reality show in the offseason. Welker dropped a couple yesterday and the others have as well. No, they're not always pretty... but he is damn effective and when he needs to thread a needle - he can still do it. I don't like him having 80+ attempts in the first 2 games and I really don't like Moreno doing well, because I fear they'll trust him again and he'll rear his ugly head again when it matters most... @ Dallas or @ KC, something like that. (off topic) Moreno has talent, but he has a $.02 brain and I will never trust him again... yes, played well yesterday, great blocks and nice fumble recovery with the yards and the TDs. But, I'm not convinced that he's still not a knucklehead. Can't believe Ball fumbled it (again) on that first drive... him and Hillman, with Moreno have to be the holy trinity of butterfingers for a RB trio. Again, that's why they're passing so damn much. Anywho... they're making great second half adjustments, need to put it all together for a full game. And, kudos to the defense - while they're giving up too many big plays and 50+ points in two games is too much, they're not pathetic. Lots of young guys getting valuable experience right now... |

KC will have to continue to improve and win the entire season (and next) before most of the NFL buys into them. That's the way it works when you've been as crappy as this team has been for a while. |
Quote:
But the thing that sets him apart is that he sometimes throws those imperfect passes to guys who don't have anyone anywhere near them. He's absolutely fantastic at finding the guy everyone on the defense forgot about, even when they're the 3rd or 4th option. In addition, he's still got a good knack for extending plays and, again, finding the guy who manages to slip out in the open during the chaos. |

Yesterday- Giants could go into half with lead-kick a chip shot field goal-instead throw a pic into triple coverage. Might as well take a shot right and hope there is enough time to get the FG. Poor choice-Donks were waiting. Good teams seem to get lucky-and the donks have had every call their way-they will be tough to beat. If the Faders don't shut down Manning's two yard wobblers to open guys-they won't have a shot. I think the Donks play it smart and wait for the gifts to come their way like they have the last two games. |
I will add the Donks receivers have not done him any favors either- they have dropped a ton of balls. So I guess it evens out. They are the team to beat and will only get better with Chump and VonD coming back.

It proved how good the defense is going to be this year and really how fragmented Dallas is going to be in my opinion. That team will win nothing with Romo - he's Jake Plummer without the personality and somewhat prettier stats. I liked Plummer and loathed the bad decision making, but you knew he wanted to win and was a team player in my mind. Romo ... the jury is out, but he really likes being the Cowboys' QB. |

Does anyone know Romeos exact game plan against Manning?
Is it primarily man or zone? Primarily blitz heavy or dropping guys in coverage? Staying back and keeping everything in front of you or taking away the short stuff and making him beat you deep? |

Yep we would love it too-lol |
Guess what? Being a great team and also being lucky are not mutually exclusive.
The Broncos are very, very good. But they certainly look a lot better when their opponents randomly throw insanely horrible interceptions to safeties who have no offensive player within fifteen yards of them. Chiefs fans who say the Broncos aren't a great team are kidding themselves. Bronco fans who say their team isn't benefiting from unforced errors by the other team are doing the same. Here's how I see the first two weeks in donkey country: http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps8f54d82e.png |
There's definitely a mix of both right now, but to Denver's credit, the defense has made some great plays. It's not all brain dead mistakes by Flacco and Eli.
|
Donks are good. I have no idea why teams are not trying to hit Peyton more. He will make some of the quick throws, but eventually you get to him. And he gets knocked off quick. Problem is no one is doing it and he is torching. Same with the wrs. Your safeties have to pop them. Because very few teams can match passing game with in todays nfl and what they let them do.

Peyton has been hit several times. He was sacked twice against Baltimore, and hit after the throw several times. I mean they have Suggs and Dumervil on both sides. We haven't drawn a roughing the passer call once, so I don't really see this "you guys get all the calls" crap. Yesterday's game the zebras were doing everything they could to keep Eli in it.

BAL and NY got some pressure on Peyton and even hit him a few times. Hell, yesterday there was at least one time (and I think another in game 1) when he was wrapped up and Peyton steps out of it.
They have a ton of options in the passing game which helps negate a good pass rush --- if someone is coming, just toss it at one of the 5-6 waiting to catch it, or aim at their feet if their not open. |
People shouldn't sleep on the Chargers, they can still put up a ton of points. Through two weeks i think SD looks like the team to challenge Denver, not KC.

SD has talent... they just have no heart and no leadership. In week 6, last season ... Chargers were 3-2 with a 24-0 lead at halftime over Denver. Denver put up 35 unanswered and SD finished 4-7 down the stretch. SD has won 5 while losing 8 since that game, with wins over the Chiefs, Raiders, Jets and Jags. Excuse me if I don't take them too seriously just yet, especially with their week 1 2013 being so similar to week 6 2012. |
It won't be a popular sentiment, but I don't think the Chiefs are legitimate until the offense starts to click. Which needs to be sooner rather than later. They have winnable games, but I wouldn't call many of them easy.
|
Quote:
KC has looked great on defense but their offense is still pedestrian and they're going to struggle if they get down early. SD and Denver are both capable of putting KC in a 2 score hole at any given moment in the game. |

Shit, after he threw that pick 6 they put a bunch formation left, and gave him an easy 5 yard throw to make and he missed by 3. He then put together a nice throw past the sticks to Royal who dropped it (credit where credit is due) but he was still rattled. Quote:

Rivers will get in his own way... he's not going to put a team on his back and say 'follow me'. They don't have that guy on their team, on either side of the ball. Most good teams do and all great teams have one or more.

Well, it's a good thing the Chargers don't have Vincent Jackson anymore. That guy is a monster.

Trindon Holliday is one fast little sob. Exciting to watch and can be a factor.

Why is beating the Eagles suddenly considered more impressive than beating Dallas?
The Eagles were trash last year and are in year one of a rebuilding program. Dallas > Philly Romo > Vick |

Plus, it's Thursday night - Reid going to his former team... 2-0 vs 1-1 ... all sorts of various factors make winning this game a big deal for KC and looking good on both sides of the ball in the process. Cowboys have been 8-8, 8-8, 6-10 the last 3 seasons... nothing special at all. PHI hasn't been that much better with 4-12, 8-8 and 10-6. But again, the storyline is different and on a bigger stage. If KC had lost to DAL .... nobody would give a damn. But, at 2-0 and with this backdrop ... I think you have some serious interest with how real can this team be with that defense, Reid and Smith at QB. |
Quote:
Dallas is a better team than Philly. Period. This is a good football team, and losing a road game on a short week will change nothing. |
Quote:
And, if KC blows out PHI ... I'll certainly be shocked to read anything positive from you. You have total hate for Smith, so you're jaded and biased and deep down ... you wish them more failure than successs. |

Our offense has room to grow... |
I hate Alex Smith, but only because I love this team, and I can admit when they exceed my expectations, which is why I am now teetering on the edge of total homer mode.

The EAGLES will still be a great test for this KC defense... Vick has had nice passing days in the first two weeks and McCoy is a legit dual threat. Their defense hasn't been that great, so that's a plus for KC... but the offense has been pretty bland for KC so far. Smith was the leading rusher last week and there's only been 1 player with more than 50 yds receiving for KC in either game.
But again, Reid will likely get a bit more aggressive this week... certainly needs to do it, perfect timing. Hard to say that a week 3 game is a 'must win', but I think this is from a sense of proving it's a different team. The defense looks legit, they'll certainly be tested and it's time for the offense to stand up and lead the way in a win. |

To your point though, if we win this one, it will be very exciting to be a Chief Fan. Accordingly this will be a tough game. I like our chances against a lot of teams, but this one is tough. We don't have the gumption to score a lot of points in a hurry and they have the capability to do just that. If we get burned a couple of times quick, it could get ugly. |
