Morels, yet?
 

Anyone found any morels, yet? It's so humid today, they gotta be popping up.

ground isn't warm enough around KC I don't think. Perhaps another week or so.

had an old farmer tell me this morning he's expecting them tomorrow or wednesday

Excellent. Like ****ing steak. Bread them with flower then fry them in butter. I top them with some Parmesan cheese. I want some now.

If you like mushrooms yes they’re delicious. If you’re not a fan you probably wouldn’t care about them.

You won’t find them in a store, they grow wild so you’ll have to hunt them down yourself.
As far as how I cook them I use a similar breading to when I fry fish, 50/50 flour and corn meal, pinch of salt and pepper to taste then fry them in vegetable oil. But that fried in butter with parmesan topping sounds very interesting. :hmmm:

That map ptlyon posted shows them popping up around me late last week. Think I’ll take the hound for a walk through the woods this evening.

It's humid but with the rain last night I doubt they've popped.

What are some signs you all look for?

Mostly just look for rotted wood, old dead stumps and limbs that have fallen to the ground. But I’ve seen them pop up in the middle of a grass patch for no apparent reason too.

Severe drought here last year, very dry so far this spring. I'm having my doubts.

Nobody atleast that we know of can get them to fruit on their own, its really a weird mushroom kind of does what it wants.

They're wild. Can't plant shit like this. Just pops up randomly in certain areas.

Sadly I sold my property last month. They came up in large numbers in the same spot every year. I let the new owners know where. Good guy morel karma hopefully.

I was hoping nobody would buy it until May so I could load up one more time. :D

I went all over corp ground around the lake looking and only found a couple. They ended up being in the tree line about 20 yards from the back door. Ironic. They came back there every year after that.

Took the hound for a walk around the local lake park and didn’t find shit, must be a bit early yet.

I haven't seen any mayapples, yet. That's a big indicator for me.

The park across from the old homestead is an excellent spot.

Man I found a shitload of mushrooms today. Should have got to them a couple of days earlier as a huge amount were already top rotted

I found 10 a week ago. I am hoping the warm weather tomorrow really makes them pop. I am afraid the season might be over though.

I'm up in Northern Missouri. Hope we still have a few weeks of the right kind of weather. Found all mine right across from my house. Was cutting some weeds and decided to take a look. Wow

Had a guy bring me a plastic trash bag full this afternoon.

I've found a few this year, but the weather hasn't cooperated one bit so far this season. Looking forward to next week but concerned the season may be over. :(

Finally got out and found a couple dozen. Season is just about over, I'd say.

Not yet full on mold season.

Southeast Kansas has exploded in morels this season. All the planets must have aligned because this season has been crazy good.

I'm still finding them at my places. Not the huge ones I found last year, but still decent sized browns
