I need help from people in the IT field.

I plan on moving to Topeka at the end of May or beginning of June. I currently work in the IT field doing PC repair and Network troubleshooting. I am willing to commute to Lawrence or KC for the right job. I don't have a ton of qualifications. I am A+ Certified and have 4 years of experience with PC repair and basic network troubleshooting including active directory. I am currently studying to get CCNA and MCSE Certified. If anybody knows of any openings I would appreciate it. Thanks.

IT openings right now are very few and far between without high qualifications. My department is currently in a hiring freeze, as are others I know of. It's a tough time to get your foot in the door and still make a good wage.

Good luck.

What are you considering a good wage? I would be willing to take 14-15/hour in topeka/lawrence or 16/hour in kansas city.

My only advice, is RUN, RUN far away from IT as you can...

I did 2 years ago and have yet to look back, I am happy and enjoying life without the hassle of being completely unappreciated.

I might not make as much as I did in IT at the moment, but life couldnt be better...

Well I guess that depends on your lifestyle and whether you are supporting a family. Personally I wouldn't consider anything under $35,000/yr a livable wage in KC/Topeka/Lawrence in the IT field. $18-19/hr. But again, it's all how you manage your money.

With your qualifications and experience that sounds about right.

So what job did you end up changing too?

Good to know. I could work with those wages as I work on my qualifications.

I really, really like the IT field. So I won't be running anywhere.

I manage it very well. I have been living on less than $25K a year. And supporting my family of 5. My wife is going to attend Washburn Law School so things will be tight until she finishes.
