Iowa City CP'ers

Tell me of your city. I'm going to be working up here for the foreseeable future and I'd appreciate any of the usual info. Restaurants, things to do, mechanics, doctors, so on and so forth you'd recommend. I'm 26 and have a fiancee if that gives you any cues on stuff to do.

I know U of Iowa is here and the city isn't that big. I'm guessing most everything centers around the University. I know the weather sucked here today so that's no different than KC. Are the winters even more awful? I'm presuming they are. That's about all I got right now.

Just help a guy out.

College town is college.

And yes the winters are worse.

Go to the Yacht Club for live music and delicious Peace Tree beverages. Tell Scott that Phil Kloster sent you. He won't kick your ass but maybe I'll get a reach-around from him next time.

More snow, more ice, or longer? All of the above?

Just remember that Captain Kirk is from Iowa.

Can do. It certainly looks like they have plenty of events.

Oh, and is the local coverage up here the Chiefs for the NFL?

Phobia 07-15-2013 07:53 PM

Grew up with Scott's little sister. He's about 4 years older but married one of my oldest female friends. She's a sweetheart. The Peace Tree product was created in my home town by a gal a year younger than me, so I'm pretty proud to have some connection with that place. Peace Tree is a great brewery even without the emotional connection.

Would that be a pro or a con?

I don't even know. I'm not going out of my way to buy DTV or Sunday Ticket to watch them if they aren't covered.

I'll definitely give them a try.

Was up there on business a few months ago. Went to a little hole in the wall bar called The Mill. Ended up having one of the best pizzas in recent memory. It's definitely a campus place though, average patron age was probably 21-22 that night. Wasn't rowdy or anything though.

If at a bar, just for fun break out in an Iowa State or Ohio State fight song.

Guaranteed to get you some free drinks.

Start every conversation with "Man that Steve Alford is a great coach, eh?"

Colder and more snow. The difference between KC and Iowa city is noticeable. Probably 10-15 degrees.

If you're a hawkeye fan or willing to become one, it's a fun town. There's good casual food/atmospheres, but its all very hawkeye-centric.
