How does your retirement funding work?

Excluding social security, what's your deal on retirement funding? The poll will take a few minutes for me to put up, but the delay is primarily to compound your interest in the topic.

Chiefsplanet has the right to audit this stuff, you know. It's a pay to play forum and we need to be sure that people have the resources to post.

We'll prepare your bill. At 31,000+ posts, I hope you brought your credit card.

Cut 'em up 6 years ago. Haven't had one since. I pay cash but good luck getting that too.

OK on with your thread now as I duck out.

Spend an assload of money buying a percentage of the firm, increase your share proportionally as previous partners retire/get bought out, hope the firm lives long enough to buy you out at a kingly sum like it did the people you paid for when you bought in.

So not quite as nice as those state-run jobs where they just give you 90% of your salary until you die.

I should've totally worked for the government.

Rasputin 10-22-2012 11:38 AM

I don't think I make enough to have a retirement plan to work. Am fixing to switch gears and become a truck driver. At least I am seriously thinking about it seriously.

Seriously?

Rain Man 10-22-2012 11:40 AM

The more I think about it, it would be funny if austinchief had one of those mile-long "terms of agreement" when you sign up on Chiefsplanet, and buried in there somewhere you have to pay 5 cents per post. That could be his retirement plan.

seclark 10-22-2012 11:40 AM

This is my best hope....

My employer offers no retirement plan, I used my previous savings towards a business that blew up after 5 1/2 years, and an earlier pension account from a union job is 1/4 of what is was due to union mismanagement.

I'll be working until I drop.....:deevee:

King_Chief_Fan 10-22-2012 12:03 PM

I have a defined benefit plan and a defined contribution plan (401k).
Not many companies offer both any more

and if they don't, we go with the Obama plan where you fork over some of your $$ to the other guy so he can have equal access.

Dang. How did I forget that?

bobbymitch 10-22-2012 02:29 PM

Regular retirement (lowered slighty so that it would continue to my wife, should I die first), 401(k) that I maxed every year and employer did various 50% to 25% matching, plus SS. When I turned 65, my health insurance became secondary to medicare and it included drugs and dental coverage.

No house payment and no car payment, so our bank account is actually growing each month.

Pension? I am surprised by this, congrats for finding one of those in your generation.
They are pretty much non-existent for our generation.
Government job?

tooge 10-22-2012 03:10 PM

I'm actually funding the retirement of all the people living off of the taxes I pay.

Kerberos 10-22-2012 04:03 PM

Bernie....he Madoff with all my retirement money.

I got in at the end. I think new employees now either don't get it or get a smaller cut. It's not a pension in the like of an annuity, but a lump sum based upon years of service & highest average salary.

Phobia 10-22-2012 07:19 PM

My family court lawyers in two states seemed to have liked my 401k retirement funds just fine. I bought one of them a 911 and one of them a boat.

KCFaninSEA 10-22-2012 08:33 PM

.I have a defind pension account fully paid for by my employer. It is a multi employer pension plan that is about 95% funded and at retirement age of 54 I could get about $5000 a month until I die. I will probably work a few years past that age and continue to build that account

GloryDayz 10-22-2012 08:37 PM

I'm married with kids therefore it's not really mine, so I don't really worry about it too much! I could have a trillion dineros and still be told if it's what I want, there's no coin for it. I hate CHunt!

Mack 10-30-2012 12:10 AM

Retirement is really being more like a tire, it is being retreaded because now you can do exactly what you were born to do. Whether that be volunteer work, owning and managing assets, travel, enjoying life, enjoying family, going on a mission trip, or all of the above

Inspector 10-30-2012 06:42 AM

My employer matched 18% of my 401k contributions for those 30+ years I worked there - rolled over to an IRA. I have a very nice pension and some dough put away. No debt and all that. I don't plan on working again but maybe I will if I get bored enough - which I won't. And yeah, my kids will never get a pension. Those are probably mostly going away for good. The company I worked for doesn't pay pensions for the younger new hires anymore. Us old farts still get it .

I thought my company was built by the stock holders / owners. I heard the other day that it wasn't.

BlackHelicopters 10-30-2012 07:06 AM

What is Social Security?

tredadda 10-30-2012 08:08 AM

Defined pension+Roth IRA+TSP+Stocks and possibily disability. I am also hoping to get some investment properties when I retire from my first job and depending on what my next employer offers, that as well.

Hog's Gone Fishin 10-30-2012 10:23 AM

20 rental properties will bring me in around $15,000 a month . They're 75% paid off and I will retire at 55. Real Estate is the best way to go ! And I can always sell sperm on the side.

And I don't have any IRA's , savings , nothing . EVERYTHING goes into paying off the rentals.

R8RFAN 10-30-2012 10:26 AM

I have a 401k + Pension + Solid income from a business venture

HonestChieffan 10-30-2012 10:59 AM

401k, pension, post retirement 2 business ventures. probably work till I want to fish, hunt, sleep, or give a shit about the Chiefs again.

MahiMike 10-30-2012 11:02 AM

I'll never trust a 401K again. I have my own self-directed IRA that I buy stocks and real estate thru. I get tax-free rental income.
