Mock (3/16/13)
Assumptions:
1. They get one compensatory pick, an extra third (Carr). 2. The Chiefs try furiously to trade down, but there are no takers. On with the show: 1. OLB Ezekial Ensah, BYU Quote:
The Chiefs released Maneri today, opening up a spot in our TE corps for some good hands. 3. ILB Nico Johnson, Alabama Adding some power to fill our last remaining hole in the linebacking corps. 4. WR Terrance Williams, Baylor The Chiefs need reliable hands downfield, and Williams' are among the most reliable hands in this draft. The good news is that he ran a shit 40 time and looked average at the Combine, causing his otherwise borderline-first round grade to slip. 5. C Brian Schwenke, California Some insurance in the off chance that Rodney Hudson isn't recovering as we've hoped. Schwenke goes along with what I think might be a theme with the signing of Geoff Schwartz: the Chiefs may be trending more towards power in the offensive line, and less towards athleticism. 6. RB Knile Davis, Arkansas Surely Davis doesn't fall this far, right? 7. NT TJ Barnes, Georgia Tech Adding a more one-dimensional run-stopper here at the end. Why not. Toribio will not survive the Reid regime, not because he's a bad player but because low-end value players rarely do in a regime change.. |

How is Ertz going to be around in the third? The guy is the second best TE in the draft behind Eifert.
|
Switch ertz with Jordan Reed and I'm good

You just absolutely never know who's going to fall and why. I have a 2nd round grade on Ertz. It's not unthinkable he falls half a round. |
Anybody like Minter in the third?
|

But yes, he'd be great value in the third. |

With TE's becoming more of a weapon with each passing season, I can't even imagine Ertz falling past #50, let alone all the way to the 90's. |
I don't understand how you can justify drafting a player 1.1 who has 4.5 career college sacks and has played only two-thirds of a season as a starter.
|
This year, it's best not to think of it anymore as the "first overall pick."
Better to think of it as a "high first." That's the only way Joeckel, Ensah, Floyd, and even Geno Smith make sense. There's no "first overall" player in this draft. Star Lotulelei is the only player in this draft with 1st overall qualities IMO, and he's got a mystical heart condition. |
Even so, that's a very dangerous move. The guy had 2/3 of a season of good production in non BCS conference with middling sack totals.
If JPP, who produced far more impressive numbers and had better measureables, was a complete afterthought as a top 10 pick, how can you consider Ansah a potential top five selection? |

Nobody really gave a shit about smaller, squiggly slot guys until Welker set the world on fire. The dudes who tear shit up raise the value of their prototype. |
Quote:
Ansah at #1 overall? Yeah, no. First off, there isn't a chance in hell that they stay at 1.1 and secondly, even if they DID (which they won't), Dion Jordan is a MUCH better fit. |
TBG is saying it's unlikely they find a way to move down.
#1 pick, man. That thing's radioactive. I don't think they can trade down. |
