What's the most money you've ever won in a casino?

Went out to a local casino tonight with $140 in my pocket. Walked out with $1280. Won most of it playing a dollar slot machine. Most I have ever won on a slot machine is $1800, but I prefer playing table games most of the time.

Curious if people of the planet have any interesting casino stories.

Ming the Merciless 04-02-2013 12:30 AM

turned 100 bux into a grand on craps once...but other tthan that my favorite thing to do is play vidya poker at the bar, try to break even or win a little, but sit there for a couple hours getting free booze

usually i do ok at that

Mr. Flopnuts 04-02-2013 12:32 AM

Nailed 16k out of an Oklahoma casino last July. 4 different machines, all jackpots. All in about 3 hours. It was ****ing awesome!

MoreLemonPledge 04-02-2013 01:11 AM

I won almost half a million this past week. It's easier when you're on the other side of the operation.

Discuss Thrower 04-02-2013 05:50 AM

A $10 roulette bet on 19. I hit it, but lost $200 of the winnings straight out of my pocket or by drunkenly tipping out every other spin.

spanky 52 04-02-2013 06:10 AM

600 hundred dollars in the slots at Blackhawk, CO.

Stewie 04-02-2013 06:15 AM

Rarely go to casinos so I'm probably on the losing side a few bucks. I did win $400 at the Woodlands Dog Track back in the day. I think those winnings put me on the positive side of my gambling there.

kepp 04-02-2013 06:33 AM

-$50

CoMoChief 04-02-2013 06:33 AM

For about a couple months (when poker was the shit) me and a friend went to the poker room at Harrahs for 8 weekends straight, won over a total of $4k...so roughly $500 a night for a couple months....it was pretty easy to be honest...don't know why I still don't do that actually..

Dave Lane 04-02-2013 06:40 AM

We got him back with a whole floor of rooms to himself.
I'm sorry you missed your plane.
Glad to get to know you.
Oh, no. No gambling.
And once he was back, he played small.
He bet 1,000 a hand, instead of his usual 30,000 a hand.
...to the bank with a natural lead over a five.
But I knew the trick with whales like Ichikawa...
was that they can't bet small for long.
He didn't think of it as winning 10,000...
he thought of it as losing 90,000.
So, he upped his bets.
Until he dropped his winnings back and gave up a million of his own cash.
In the casino, the cardinal rule is to keep them playing...
and keep them coming back.
The longer they play, the more they lose.
In the end, we get it all.

Went on a heater at the black jack tables back when I was 19 or 20 and turned $40 into $960.

Dartgod 04-02-2013 06:54 AM

$585 in a blackjack session at the old Argosy casino. This was back when they were the only casino in town. When they had an actual boat that went out on the river for a 2 hour session.

hometeam 04-02-2013 06:55 AM

I went to STL for a work training thing a few years ago, afterwords, we sat down at a blackjack table.

Started with 20 walked out with 250.

So now lifetime im something like -3500~

Probably +300ish. C'MON FREE SPINS!!!

I don't know how anyone can play video poker though. What a ****ing bore.

Dayze 04-02-2013 07:47 AM

$60.

of course I've only been tiwce.
I took out $40 from the ATM; said screw the $20/hand black jack tables, and played video poker. on the 3rd hand I got a winning hand - like a royal flush or something and I had doubled my gbet or whatever. won the $60, and cashed out.

we were there for my wife's company Christmas party next door. she lost her $40 in about 7 minutes.

I like my money too much to go to a casino.

Friggles 04-02-2013 08:04 AM

Won $7500 on a progressive $1 slot about a year ago. Usually play poker at Harrahs about once per month and walk out about $200 ahead each night.

Dayze 04-02-2013 08:08 AM

I have a relative who literally always walks out with like $500 or more each time he goes.

it's unreal. that shit would never happen to me.

Hootie 04-02-2013 08:11 AM

I only play poker...

best session was +$2000 playing 10/20 LIMIT (lol) when I was 19 at the Winstar in Windsor, Canada.

Back then people were SO BAD at poker...especially limit. I had a guy raise me 10 times with a set of 5's when the board was 10 Q K 5 X and I obviously had the nuts (JA).

That session got me into limit poker for a long time and made me start hating poker until I eventually switched back to real poker (no limit).

RyFo18 04-02-2013 08:20 AM

Came home from a Vegas trip once w/ $2200. Won $1K in a 30 minute blackjack session and then another $1000 parlaying the hard 6/8 in craps.

lcarus 04-02-2013 08:29 AM

Heh, I've only really gambled once and that was the one time I went to Vegas. My buddy and I played 1-3 limit poker with the tourists and walked away with about 300 each in our pockets. Made another couple hundred off blackjack. Then I had some quarters leftover and dropped them in a Munsters themed slot machine. It spit out 40 bucks. THen I dropped a quarter in another random slot machine a second later. It spit out 80 bucks. I just stopped right there. The last day we combined to put 200 down on one hand of blackjack. We had a shitty hand but the dealer busted. Was a great time.

Hootie 04-02-2013 08:30 AM

making $300 in 1-3 limit poker is like winning the lottery

I don't even know how that's possible

everyone would play every hand...I didn't even know 1/3 limit existed...are you sure you didn't play NL?

Jewish Rabbi 04-02-2013 08:34 AM

Hit $5400 on a slot in January, then ~$1600 a week later. Between taxes, frivolous spending, and going back to the casino, I blew threw it in about 6 weeks.

Mr. Laz 04-02-2013 08:47 AM

$860 on a dollar slot

Positive. We sat there for a few hours and just got free drinks, conversed with some interesting people. We pretty much just played our good hands. There were a lot of people coming through there that had no idea what they were doing. We played a couple 100 dollar buy-in tournaments and lost. The first tournament, I lost the very first hand. I had pocket Qs and a lady went all in with A-J and I called her and lost.

splatbass 04-02-2013 09:04 AM

I went to Vegas in February last year, got there late at night. I got up the next morning, went to breakfast, then went straight to the MegaBucks slot machine to play my daily $21 there (it is $3 a pull, and I always do 7 pulls a day to try to win the $12M). On the third pull I won $5400. I had been playing for less than 5 minutes.

Pretty much ruined gambling the rest of the trip, because I knew I could only lose the money I just won. But I had a good time anyway.

Another time I won $300 on the MegaBucks slot at the Venetian. And I won $250 on the MegaBucks at TI. I do pretty freakin well on the MegaBucks.

I like to tell people I lost 40,000 in ten minutes at the casino. Of course I was in Seoul, and it was 40,000 Won, which is about $36. :)

$500, a couple of times. I win more often than I lose. Play smart, don't drink, know when to walk away. Like when you get up by $500.

Bump 04-02-2013 10:01 AM

$120 out of a slot machine in vegas once.

Bump 04-02-2013 10:02 AM

but if you count poker tournaments I've won a few and the most I've won at once was $2,000.

No fold em hold em.

Mr. Flopnuts 04-02-2013 10:08 AM

Back when I was playing a lot of online poker, I won thousands. $5-10 dollar tourneys with a thousand participants and I would grind out 6-8 hours and take home a few grand. Won a half dozen, finished top 5 in a bunch more. Every time I upped it to $50-100 tourneys I wouldn't do as well. I prefer playing with fish. :)

Johnny Vegas 04-02-2013 10:10 AM

at the Bellagio, was up the entire night because my flight was at 6am so an hour before I head to the airport I hit a keno machine for $8000. Didn't even get a chance to spend it in Vegas had to skidattle right after having 80 $100 bills counted in my hand. Was my second trip ever to Vegas. Was hooked after that. Since then I've won $4000 multiple times on those same keno machines at the Bellagio. Different trips, but the most I ever won at one time was the $8000.

InChiefsHeaven 04-02-2013 10:13 AM

I like Blackjack, but I play the 5 dollar tables cuz I want my money to go further. I might be gambling in a casino once every 3 years. My wife likes Roulette. One time, we won 600.00. Another time she was playing and got up to 18 hundred...then lost it all down to 500.00. The funny part is, it paid for our dinner and our hotel, so basically we had a free night out...but I was still pissed because we were up to almost 2k. This is why I don't gamble. I would have quit at 200 (we started with 50.00) and she would go for broke.

Oh well, it was a great night!

kc rush 04-02-2013 10:29 AM

I took $100 down to almost 0, then back up to $100. I figured that breaking even was good enough for me and I walked away.

guava9 04-02-2013 10:40 AM

$120

Nzoner 04-02-2013 10:47 AM

And while I agree with others takes that the casinos usually get the money back I still enjoy the hell out of playing and am quite loyal to Caesars Entertainment as they have given more than enough back in comps. My Vegas trip two weeks ago included:

5 nights comped at The Rio
Access to Diamond Lounges with free food and drinks without gambling
2 comped tickets to The Improv comedy show with comped drinks
Comped entry to The Rio's Voodoo Lounge club and comped drinks
All meals were comped and we were given express access to the buffet with private seating
Express access to shuttles with no waiting in line.

So my out of pocket was a plane ticket and gambling money for 5 nights in Vegas.Perfect vacation for me.

Absolutely. You have to look at it as entertainment. When I go to gamble, I take a set amount, whatever I feel like I can burn on a night out. If I come home with some, great. Otherwise, I'm gonna have a great time...unless I lose it all right away...which has happened before...which is why I don't really gamble that much...;)

Demonpenz 04-02-2013 11:29 AM

I lose about 30 dollars each time I go on video poker. I have won 100 dollars a couple times. If you want to minimize your loses play games you are familar with don't chase money and don't get butt hurt when you lose.

Mr. Flopnuts 04-02-2013 11:29 AM

Gambling is just a form of entertainment to me. I don't plan on winning big. I know I may not win at all. But I love the thrill of the hunt, and it's how I choose to spend my entertainment budget. As Nzoner said, the comps help offset some of the costs. The closest casino to me is over 2 hours away. If I go, I'm usually spending the night. I never pay for rooms, or food. I take my own booze. We have a lot of fun.

jjjayb 04-02-2013 11:59 AM

I won $13k on a progressive jackpot.

ThaVirus 04-02-2013 01:39 PM

I went to the Hard Rock in Tampa for the first time with my dad several months ago. I only threw $80 in the slot machines and had basically zero luck. I think I was ahead of where I started for maybe a handful of pulls while I played.

My dad on the other hand gets hot for some reason. I watched him get up over $100 off of $20 on three different slot machines. Problem is, he doesn't know when to quit and ended up losing the $200 he walked in with that day. That ****er likes to gamble; I could tell LMAO

Dayze 04-02-2013 03:01 PM

I wo uld probably enjoy it if I had the money to lose etc.
I really wanted to play blackjack that night we were at the casnio for my wifes' christmas party. That is, until I saw the lowest amount was like $20. screw that.
the $10 was packed....and only 1 x $10 table.

If i had like 300 to burn, it would be a good night of entertainment I suppose.

sd4chiefs 04-02-2013 04:08 PM

I won $1000 on a LV sports bet that the Chiefs would win less than 7 games the year that Brodie Croyle was thier starting quarterback. It was like stealing money.

The Franchise 04-02-2013 04:13 PM

How often do you have to go to actually get comped?

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-02-2013 04:34 PM

I won $300 at Harrah's playing No Limit for about an hour once. Friend busted out so I left.

Won $180 on quarter slots at the Venetian when we were walking through. Sat down, put a quarter in, and bam.

I've never lost playing Roulette, but I've only played once, and I stick to one rule:

ALWAYS BET ON BLACK.

playing all of the good hands wouldn't mean jack in 1/3 limit since everyone would play every hand

if you take AA against 8 other people your odds of winning the hand probably aren't much higher than 20% (tops) preflop...

I'll test this.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-02-2013 04:36 PM

I had to learn the hard way that you can't get people off of shit hands by being aggressive in low-limit poker. You have to play strong drawing hands because it's too hard to isolate.

Suited connectors are the best starting hands in limit.

Hootie 04-02-2013 04:37 PM

yeah I did a simulation with AA against 8 random other shit hands and it drew 31% to win (clearly the favorite, but still only 3/10)

Hootie 04-02-2013 04:40 PM

I did another one where someone had AK suited, another guy had 55, and someone else had 87 of hearts against 6 other random hands preflop and 87 hearts was favored at 19%...

what I'm trying to say is

in 1/3 limit where you're probably facing 6 people, minimum, every flop...

winning 100 big bets, and 2 of you nonetheless at the same table, has to be nearly impossible...like Chiefs taking Geno #1 impossible

Hootie 04-02-2013 04:42 PM

10/20 Limit is a good, profitable casino poker...but I wouldn't go any lower...rake is too high in 5/10 and it's not much tighter than 3/6 (a joke because of what I just described) to justify playing it...the rake takes too much money off the table

if you're playing limit, you have to play 10/20 or 20/40 if you consider the rake if you want to be a profitable player if you play solid limit poker

I used to play limit in Chicago 60 hours a week and I learned my lesson at 5/10...I used to get steaming mad at beats when I played hands to perfection...10/20 calmed me down...finally I switched back to 200 NL and life was better

With Caesars/Harrahs properties you can earn tier and rewards credits based on your play when you insert a player's card.1 tier credit on slots=$5 played and 1 tier credit on video poker=$10 played.

Tier credits determine your standing i.e. 5000 in one year and you go to platinum status,15,000 in a year and you go to diamond etc.Basically it depends on how you gamble if you win a few bucks and cash out and leave you won't get near the rewards, for example I once sat down at video poker in Council Bluffs and played almost 4 hours on a $20 bill but was able to rack up over 120 tier credits in that time.So while some would say I gambled $1200 in 4 hours I look at it as I entertained myself for 4 hours on $20 and earned myself comps and rewards.

Only one I ever went to was some depressing run down place somewhere outside of Tulsa. Good friend of mine got a job right after college in Tulsa and a group of guys made a weekend trip to visit him. After last call of course a casino sounded like a good idea (?) and we had no clue where to go, so the cabbie took us to one, and it was like they smushed together a couple trailers all together, and the sorriest bunch of people you ever saw. I don't think they even had table games? We stayed for all of about 5 minutes.
I had no clue that Oklahoma had 18+ casinos- I always assumed it was 21+ everywhere ?

ChiefRocka 01-01-2014 05:10 PM

Just turned $80 into $600 in Atlantic City last weekend. Hit a full house in 3 card poker then hit a straight on the next hand. Dealer was quickly swapped thereafter.

I'd guess that was probably a coincidence. Dealers can't stay at the table for more than an hour and twenty minutes no matter what. $600 is nothing to a casino.
