Who knows though.

The whole philosophy behind Romeo's defense out of base and sub fronts is to provide pressure with 4.

The problem was, he never had competent 3/5 tech DEs that could provide an adequate pass rush. With Romeo's defense, you have to have smart front based players that can quickly diagnose run v. pass and then provide an ability to get upfield. If Tyson Jackson had turned into Richard Seymour, then Romeo's philosophies would have been more productive.

Running 2gap principles is outdated but can still be effective. You just have to have elite/smart players manning your base front.

what Sutton had in NYJ that he doesnt have in KC

two very good, young, athletic freak d-lineman that can rush the passer/generate a push up the middle

Poe might be able to.

Other than that, nope. Sure would be nice to have #34.

I mean, I guess there is a chance Allen Bailey produces but damn, I really though the guy was going to be productive in the 3 tech this year and he completely underwhelmed.

if you are hoping for green as grass 1 year experience 0 sacks Dontari Poe to come out in an offseason and be a NFL pass rush specialist or Allen Bailey to figure out a bullrush move, then it's going to be a long year and we will be in the bottom half of sacks/pressures again for the 5th year in a row lol

bigjosh 04-08-2013 07:59 PM

jerelle powe has shown flashes of being able to break through the line in the middle. i have always thought that dontari poe would be a better DE in this defense, he'd get a hell of a lot more pressure then jackson could.

Name a 3-4 DL player in the NFL besides JJ Watt who could be labeled as a "pass rush specialist."

You say some really weird shit sometimes.

there are tons. watch games that arent the Chiefs for once you will learn something

Let's say we have three terrific pass rushers from the outside. Couldn't Sutton utilize the skills that we do have? He's been around forever, i imagine he could scheme around an outside pass rush.

**** you.

"Pass rush specialist"

From a 350-lb guy.

I know guys that can and often do get pressure on the QB, but you're demanding that the Chiefs find some guy to be a "pass rush specialist" on the DL.

I'm saying there are very very very few instances of that kind of player. I can only name one.

I should correct myself. You don't say weird shit sometimes. You say stupid shit sometimes.

Who were these athletic freak lineman the Jets had during Suttons first tour in NY?

The Bad Guy 04-08-2013 08:09 PM

If you're talking about the Jets last year they couldn't get to the QB at all.

Arenas is one of the best blitzing corners I've ever seen. Guy can absolutely knife through a line.

We've wasted him the past couple of years. (Though that can be said for a lot of guys under the Crennel/Daboll regime.)

Any coach who has an ounce of creativity, good coaching principles/ability to teach technique and understands offenses (while having competent QC coaches) can come up with quality philosophies/schemes to utilize 3 OLBs.

There a few other factors that come into play as to whether your "scheme" is successful.

I hope KC is not seriously considering Dion Jordan with their first pick. I watched several Oregon games with an eye on Jordan and wasn't impressed. Sure he's athletic but he disappears for long stretches without making any impact. He's light in the pants and gets blown off the ball against the run. I think Jordan has a huge bust factor.
