Chiefs linebacker stepped up to help replace 300 stolen turkeys from homeless shelter

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker James-Michael Johnson might not be a household name in the NFL. But he is a hero to some hungry people this Thanksgiving season.

Johnson heard about a homeless shelter in his hometown of Fairfield, Calif. having 300 turkeys stolen that were meant to be served to the needy, and he made sure the good folks at Mission Solano were not left hanging by a wing and a prayer.

According to KCTV-5 in Kansas City, Johnson helped replace the missing turkeys so that a lot of down-and-out people can enjoy a nice Thanksgiving dinner. Nice work, man.

"I figured I am in a situation where I can help, where I can give back, so that is something I wanted to do," Johnson said.
Mind you, Johnson was a fourth-round pick last year, with a rookie salary of $496,000. With turkeys costing between a dollar or two per pound, a 300-turkey bill could run Johnson somewhere in the $10,000 range.

Heartwarming story from an NFL player just wanting to make a difference.

Good for him. Liked him (as a player) at Nevada... was happy when my Brownies drafted him. Glad to see he's got a good head on his shoulders. Clearly has perspective.

That's big around here. I work with a couple of people who's kids are friends with him. They all speak highly of him.

But can he play in right field though?
