The Alex Smith deal is only a bad one if you assume we aren't serious about finding a young QB we really like in 2013.

This. I'll wait till the dust settles after the draft. So far this offseason is blowing my mind. At this point, anything is possible. I'm enjoying the ride.

Last week everyone wanted him fired. Still the case?

I suppose it IS mindblowing that we traded a 34th pick for Alex Smith and the rest of the team is the same.

The rest of the team isn't the same. We have a new coaching staff with considerable improvements at DC, Special Teams, and an offensive-minded HC and OC tandem. We re-signed players that we just heard Pioli didn't seem to have much intention of re-signing. Jackson was restructured and all signs point to Cassel being shown the door.

Right now, all we have is that we were very aggressive about trading for a mediocre QB, who may or may not just be a stopgap for a young QB we believe needs some time. Free agency hasn't even opened up yet, so we haven't even NOT made any moves.

The rest of the team is mostly the same, but what moves have we missed out on so far?

Mr_Tomahawk 03-06-2013 07:57 AM

We need to try to trade cassel before we flat out release him....

Pick 2.2...

If it's bad news: announcing that Cassel has restructured his contract
If it's good news: leak info that we are getting the 49ers third this year or second next year as part of the Smith trade...or that a quality starting defensive player was part of the deal.

What about Glen Dorsey.? Why is there no talk about him. I would think he should be resigned.
