1st in the league in points with a sub-.500 record.

Anybody else in the same position as me, or been there before?

Nine games into the season, I stand at 4-5, first in the league in points.

People have had career days against me damn near every single week.

The Franchise 11-07-2011 10:21 AM

The teams that are in 1st and 2nd place in our league......are in the bottom 6 teams of points scored.

I'm up 28 points on the 2nd place team right now and he has Brent Celek left.

OnTheWarpath15 11-07-2011 10:24 AM

Happens to me nearly every year in my money league.

This year, I'm 3rd in PF and will be 4-5 after tonight.

The parity in my money league this year is gross.

You have one or two guys at 6-3, one or two guys at 3-6, everybody else is either 4-5 or 5-4.

I have outscored the guy directly in front of me in the standings by over 200 points.

Old Dog 11-07-2011 10:26 AM

I have a team that's going to end up the same way. I went into the week 50 points better than the 2nd highest scoring, but will be 3-6 assuming Vick puts up 11 points (.2 per 5 passing, .1 for 1 rushing, 6 any TD, -2 turnovers)

Nzoner 11-07-2011 12:32 PM

ARE YOU SICK AND TIRED OF SCORING THE 2ND HIGHEST POINT TOTAL EACH WEEK AND HAVING NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT?

I've shared it before but our 12 man money league as of 4 years ago started a point tier system and we've never been more satisfied. We found the rules at FFToday from a guy whose league was also getting tired of the same old crap because FF SHOULD BE ABOUT SCORING POINTS AND DRAFTING/WW MANAGEMENT BECAUSE NO MATTER HOW HARD WE TRY WE CAN NEVER MIRROR THE NFL GAME TO OUR GAME OF FF.

Simply put we still play head-to-head games each week and have a cash prize for best hth record BUT our play-offs are based on a point tier system thus creating not only wanting to win your hth match-up but also scoring the most and beating all owners.

Example our 12 man league...

Team A gets high for the week and Team B scored 2nd highest.Even though those 2 teams were playing hth Team B takes a loss but is also rewarded 10 points for 2nd highest score of the week.

The 11-0 weekly points are tallied each week and the top 6 make the play-offs at the end of the regular FF season.

I can't tell you guys the excitement that's generated going into Monday night and knowing you have the opportunity to leap-frog 3 owners with a player you have going.

Just wanted to share this again as we were very skeptical at first but now are so glad we made the change.

that's why I play rotissified H2H leagues...

we pay out top 3 for points and top 3 for playoffs...

for instance, 1 of my leagues is a $75 entree fee...$50 of the fee goes to H2H and $25 goes to points...

payouts are...

League: ($600)

1st: $300
2nd: $150
3rd: $100
4th: $50

Points: ($300)

1st: $180
2nd: $90
3rd: $30

so if you win the league and the points you can take $480 out of $900

not bad

OnTheWarpath15 11-07-2011 12:39 PM

Personally, I would rather just play Roto-style.

The whole point of FF is to build the highest scoring roster.

In a 12-team league, the Top 6 scoring teams each week get credited with a win, and the bottom 6 with a loss.

Two highest scoring teams get a bye for the playoffs. Next 4 highest scoring teams play 1st week of playoffs.

The two highest scoring teams that week move on with the two bye teams.

The two highest scoring teams that week face each other in the championship.

The only true head-to-head matchup is in the Championship game.

Honestly.....let's just turn our Auction league into that.

Unfortunately that isn't always true depending on when your championship game is and what players you own, that's why our league also plays all 17 weeks and then the top 6 teams make the play-offs with the actual NFL Play-offs in a point total post season tournament.

I know it probably sounds confusing as hell but we basically have 2 seasons and a winner of each with 2 seperate championship plaques and cash pay-outs.

Hootie 11-07-2011 12:47 PM

that wouldn't work for my leagues

80% of the fun is the H2H matchups between friends who form rivalries every year on a week to week basis...

next week I face off against someone in my division and we're both 8-1...it's been a build up all year long...

we've all been doing fantasy football together for 6 years so perhaps it's a bit different...

but paying out for points is a nice little bonus to the people who get screwed and go up against career days every week...

the buy in is $75 and if you win points you 2.5 X your money so...

last year I won points and got the #1 seed...so I went into the playoffs with a BYE and already had netted $105 on the league...I lost my first game and lost the 3rd place game (naturally)...but I still made $230 ($155 net) on the league...so successful year.

Hootie 11-07-2011 12:50 PM

I think Roto only works (in roto form) in baseball and basketball.

I think football has to have that H2H factor in it...

half the fun is having that "bad" week but seeing your opponent struggling and then knowing you still have a shot to pull out that W even though that stud RB projected to get you 25 only got 1 carry before his hamstring exploded.

I love the H2H competition in FFL...it's great...but paying out for being the best point scorer in the league is something that I consider a must, as well.

Right now I play in 6 $$ FFL leagues...all of them except for 1 pay out for points and the 1 is the most frustratingly hard league I've ever played in (very obscure scoring) but I've been doing it since 2003 so I can't quit now! I've also won enough to pay for the next 5 years of entry fees so it would be pretty stupid for me to quit.

Buck 11-07-2011 12:54 PM

I made a thread about this but it didn't really get any attention.

I was 5-1 and in first place in my league.

The last 3 weeks I've played the league leader in points for that week each week, and I've had the 2nd most points in the league each week.

I have the most points scored against me in the league.

****ing sucks.

OnTheWarpath15 11-07-2011 12:57 PM

Head-to-head just makes sure that luck is more of a variable.

but it's also the majority of the fun if you're playing with friends

I suppose I just don't believe that everything always has to be 100% fair

it's fun to catch your opponent on that week where he has 5 players on BYE

shit, there are some rivalries in my long going league where we'll draft our studs based off of where the other guy has his studs on BYE...

it's good competition...

I personally think rotissified H2H is where it's at...payout for points, but H2H is the only way to play football...

an all-play league reeks of lameness IMO...

I don't want to be 8-3 after 1 week...or 11-0 after 1 week...or 2-9 after 1 week...

that's no fun if you ask me...

shit, like I said...$100 buy in...put $50 of it towards points and $50 towards the league...

I just showed you how my $75 league worked...only $25 per entry goes to points and if you win points you turn your entire $75 into $180...not too shabby, and last year I happened to win points AND get the #1 seed...

90% of the time if you have the most points, you are winning most of your games, too...

this year I'm #2 in points and tied for 1st in the league (both of us are 8-1 now)...
