Unsung heroes of 5-0

Ryan Succop. 10 for 12 this year, and one of them was blocked.

Akeem Jordan. Quietly beasting at the other ILB spot. Does not own any guns, either.

Tyson Jackson. No one can run on us. This is a Super Bowl caliber run defense and he's a key cog.

Quentin Demps. Two INT, and I think he's going to put Kendrick Lewis on the bench by the end of the year.

JENKINSWINS 10-06-2013 03:18 PM

How can you forget Cooper?

MMXcalibur 10-06-2013 03:18 PM

So, are you fully on board with the Chiefs or....what? I lost track on where your flip-flopping is.

Ace Gunner 10-06-2013 03:18 PM

Ghost of Maslowski 10-06-2013 03:19 PM

McGrath is the one that really comes to mind for me

Ummmm hello Marcus Cooper! He had a fumble for td and int at a intense time of the game.

bsp4444 10-06-2013 03:19 PM

Kendrick Lewis was a huge wuss today.

Everyone has been talking about McGrath for 3 weeks.

Sannyasi 10-06-2013 03:20 PM

Justin Houston. He's secretly having a very solid OLB season but he's flying completely under the radar right now.

around here, sure, around the league, not so much. they only chuckle about the beard and don't realize how much slack he has picked up for KC with Fasano and Kelce unable to play, at all.

Deberg_1990 10-06-2013 03:23 PM

Alex Smith

everyone wants to talk about individual players but Andy Reid has his boys in position to make plays. he brings the schemes and the experience and the fire to this game of football and the players love to play for Big Reid.

Baby Lee 10-06-2013 03:27 PM

Methinks there was a certain becankled dweeb who had the temerity and rock solid grasp of NFL dynamics to hold an underachieving QB's feet to the fire and e-guide him to mediocrity.

the Talking Can 10-06-2013 03:29 PM

Succop

CupidStunt 10-06-2013 03:32 PM

Jackson's having a solid year, but teams CAN run on the Chiefs because they get caught in a lot of alignments that aren't there for the run. And the aggressiveness of the D, although I wouldn't change it for any other scheme, it leads to some of these big plays against that we've seen. From dynamite players like Vick and McCoy to garbage like Jackie Battle and Ryan Fitzpatrick, all have found big seams and gashed us.

That's gotta be cleared up.

Ace Gunner 10-06-2013 03:33 PM

Eric Berry continues to suffocate opposing offensive coords

the Talking Can 10-06-2013 03:34 PM

actually, that was the best our OL played by far...

we made some real holes for charles, especially behind albert...and pass protection was excellent, Stephenson was great in protection minus a couple snaps

Beer Bong 10-06-2013 03:35 PM

Jordan has really been a stud. I expected solid play but, he is far beyond that.

Eleazar 10-06-2013 03:39 PM

TDs are fluky. They've done some great things in the red zone, but the facts are that the YPC against is one of the worst in all of football, and that needs to be tightened up. There's simply no argument against that.

I can agree with this. Those big runs are the reason our opponent's YPC average is so high. I think Fitz had, like, 8 YPC and Battle another 6. We did a good job of bottling up Chris Johnson our of the backfield though.

Good news is, we tighten up when we need to.

You make a good point. I'm changing my vote to Reid for most unsung player. You know the guys love to play for him and it shows out on the football field week to week.

Remember when clay said we would get gashed in the run game and QBs would pick on Sean Smith all day.

Not to pile on, as he seems to have activated full-homer mode again, but he also said we'd be shit passing the ball 35+ times with Smith.

I think Alex has had 35+ attempts in every game thus far.

I still expect us to get beat when we play Denver, because of Sean Smith.

Flowers,Demps,Berry,Smith

Cooper first off the bench

Kendrick Lewis is invisible on the field until he misses a tackle.

unless Lewis is crucial to calling the defense plays, he's almost worthless

S. Smith has been NAILS.

Your preseason projection was 5-11 right?

No reason why these guys won't continue to exceed your expectations.

beach tribe 10-06-2013 04:58 PM

And if we lose to Denver it wont be because of either Smith.
It will be because of Manning.

Smith is not good enough to stop Manning. He will pick on him.

The other Smith is not good enough to keep pace with him.

Simple.

beach tribe 10-06-2013 05:06 PM

Smith is our best CB to this point

No QB in the league can keep up with manning.

The only chance we have is Poe hali and Houston wrecking manning.
Its on them period.

I actually expect S Smith's press to hold up the best against him out of everyone.

Hard to go back to Fisher in my opinion, but they will, seeing as he's 1.1 and all.

#1 FB in the NFL.

FringeNC 10-06-2013 06:13 PM

Bob Sutton. An incredible turn around in our pass defense. Last year, we were #30 in the league giving up 8.0 yards per pass. This year, we are #2, giving up 5.9 yards per pass.

Related to that, is Romeo Crennel the worst coach in NFL history?

Crennel's defensive philosophy is just outdated.

The rules are too slanted in the offenses favor to passively sit back and wait for mistakes.

Also, when his defense was at its best, it was an absolutely stacked patriots defense. You can play that way when you're that talented and disciplined

Molitoth 10-06-2013 06:20 PM

Funny how everyone was happy with the Reid hire, and somewhat "meh! or HUH?" on the Sutton hire. Sutton's side of the ball is kicking Reid's sides ass so far.

You need to man up and admit you were wrong about Sean Smith.

As for Alex Smith, his efficiency has dropped off in the last couple of games, and I like it.

He is being more aggressive in attacking secondaries, not consistently settling for the checkdowns, as he has in the last couple of seasons, and in the first couple games.

It's pretty clear he and the receivers are not yet fully on the same page, but even with the lack of scoring output, there's progress.

That will begin to pay dividends as the season moves forward.

All of us that have been detractors will have to eat our crow if he continues.
