But losing TRob and Selby would hurt KU tremendously (not to mention Morningstar and Reed are Seniors and they too will be leaving). TRob and Selby need to stay another year and improve their game. TRob I can understand why'd he test the NBA waters, he has a little sister to take care of, being without a family etc. But Selby in no way shape or form deserves to get drafted. Collectively he played like shit down the stretch and to be honest, the only game I saw him really take over was his debut game against USC. Other than that he's been "ehh" at best.

But let's assume for a minute that Mk Morris, Mc Morris, Selby, TRob all leave early. That leaves KU with___________in the stable for the 2011-12 season:

(Impact Players)
C - Jeff Withey
PG - Tyshawn Taylor
SG - Elijah Johnson
SF - Travis Releford

Incoming Freshmen:
SG - Ben McLemore (*****)
PG - Naadir Tharpe (****)

That's horrible, folks...

that worst case scenario is certainly possible. I would think that some of the best big men in the country would take one look at that and say, I'm going to KANSAS!

Get DeAndre and you're good to go.

Need to worry about Duke and UK though...

Tyshawn Taylor, Thomas Robinson to return to KU
Quote:

Kansas junior guard Tyshawn Taylor and sophomore forward Thomas Robinson will both return to KU next season.

The two made their intentions known through a KU release on Wednesday afternoon.

“We had a great year,” Taylor said in a release. “But since the season ended disappointingly, there has been a lot speculation with fans and on the internet on what we were going to do. The bottom line is we’re going to work very hard this offseason and put ourselves in a position to play in that game again and come out with a different result.”

Taylor was fourth on the team with a 9.3 point-per-game scoring average in 36 games. He also led the Jayhawks with 4.6 assists per game and was third on the team with 36 steals.

Robinson was sixth on the team in points per game, averaging 7.6 points while making 60.1 percent of his field-goal attempts. In 14.6 minutes per game, he averaged 6.4 rebounds.

“This was the most trying year of my life,” Robinson said in a release. “I want to thank everybody and I can’t wait to run up and down the court in a packed Allen Fieldhouse next year. I plan on busting my butt this summer to improve my game. I want to take more of a leadership role in us moving forward and winning another league championship and getting to the Final Four.”

Added KU coach Bill Self: “This is certainly not any new news to us, but I felt it was unfair for us to make a statement until I got back from the Final Four and visited with them individually. To be quite candid, we’re still smarting over the fact that we lost in the Elite Eight and were so close to putting ourselves in a position to win another (national) championship. We’re disappointed, but one thing about it, the season is officially over for everybody.

"Even if we played in the championship and even if we played in the Final Four, the season would be over now. With that, it’s a new team, a new season and a fresh start. I’m real excited about these two commitments to putting us in a situation to having great success again.”

So basically you're saying that KU is going to dominate again. Not surprising, but it's always good for that to be confirmed in April, though.

KC_Connection 04-06-2011 02:37 PM

Oh, and TRob wouldn't be coming back unless he believed the Morrises were leaving. IMO.

ArrowheadHawk 04-06-2011 02:40 PM

Updated the header to include the 3 players we are awaiting a decision on whether or not they return.

CoMoChief 04-06-2011 03:09 PM

Well, TRob news is great!!!

If there's a chance Daniels can end up a Jayhawk, and Selby stays (which I think he does considering his play this season but you never know.....I mean Kim English and Bowers entered their names into the draft pool) Kansas can (most likely will) win another Big12 title and have another championship tourney run.

Taylor/Tharpe
Selby/Johnson
Releford/McLemore
Daniels
TRob/Withey

Don't have much depth next season, esp down low in the paint. I like that starting lineup a lot better than my previous "worst case scenario"

Releford is talented......and EJ is crazy athletic but he's VERY mistake prone and gets broken down defensively and gets into foul trouble. of course these are things that can improve and he can get better and probably will. But the best in Big12? I dunno about that. Not that lineup.

Now if Daniels comes to KU and the possibility of this lineup (which I mentioned in a previous post)

Taylor
Selby
Releford
Daniels
TRob

That may be the best starting 5 in the conf. But I think getting Daniels is gonna be huge. I think he's going to Duke though.

Bambi 04-06-2011 03:16 PM

Having TT and TRob returns pretty much guranteez an 8th consecutive Big 12 title... imho of course.
