Kansas City Chiefs will work out CFL all-star wide receiver

Weston Dressler is a slot receiver from the CFL who has been an all-star multiple times. He will work out for the Chiefs this week, according to reports from Canada.

Little NFL has produced a couple of keepers:

Joe Theismann
Doug Flutie
Warren Moon
Joe Kapp
Jeff Garcia
Cameron Wake
Cookie Gilchrist
Rocket Ismail
Mike Vanderjagt
Lawrence Tynes
Andrew Hawkins
Mervyn Fernandez
Jerrell Freeman
Brandon Browner
Marc Boerichter

Terrible weather, 3 downs, huge field, ugly cheerleaders... that's how we roll.

Peterson would be on a vacation somewhere in Europe for the next month. You can play hell that he'd waste his time looking to improve the roster right now.

We're due for one of these guys to work out

Tamarick vanover worked out.

I'm from Saskatchewan and have watched almost every game of his since he's been in the CFL. He's really quick, runs good routes and has AMAZING hands, he reminds me of Wes Welker cause of how small he is.

Sure-Oz 01-13-2014 10:44 PM

Is he like Cincys Hawkins

I'm convinced that John Dorsey is a GM robot and never actually sleeps.

I like it. He is from Bismark North Dakota. He will play with heart.

OldSchool 01-13-2014 11:31 PM

I don't know how well his game translates over to the NFL. I haven't seen a single clip yet where he has to start from a set position on the LOS and beat some form of press coverage. Every play I've seen has him get a running start which allows him to avoid any press coverage and run right by DBs who are starting from more traditional sets. He'll get stonewalled in the NFL. Won't make it out of camp.

Precisely. That is what I was looking for in all these clips and didn't see it plays like that. Not saying he can't do it but I want to see the evidence of separation.

May be the kind of reciever that naturally finds the open spot in the defense but otherwise goes unnoticed.

It's funny how we always view him as a decent WR even though he played on one of the most potent offenses in the past 20 years. I mean, Sippio would've been able to get open with all the weapons they had.

Stad 01-13-2014 11:45 PM

It will be hard to find evidence of that cause all receivers in the CFL get a running start. He can also return kickoffs and punts and has been quite successful at that in the past.

I'm just interested to see how his tryout goes since i've been watching him for the last 6 years in the CFL and he's finally getting a chance.

Whether he sticks or not doesnt matter, what matters is that Big Daddy John Dorsey is the Pinkertons of GM's... He Never Sleeps.

Some pretty sweet highlights there, but damn... it'd been a while since I'd seen any CFL, those endzones are freakin CRAZY.

Dorsey just signed a bunch of players who were not on any NFL team’s active roster when the previous season ended. That's what futures contracts are. Basically, it's a way to lock down some stiffs as training camp fodder.

That red & black checkerboard endzone is from the University of Guelph where the Hamilton Tiger Cats have been playing their home games while reno's are underway at Ivor Wynne stadium.
Ahhhh, Ivor Wynne. The first place I got drunk. The first place I fingered a girl, under the South end bleachers. My memories of the CFL.

And a way to find diamonds in the rough. Not all good players in the NFL are high draft picks or even draft picks at all.

No, but bending at the knees to unzip Dorsey because he's signing the Eric Kettanis of the world to futures contracts, or because he's signing a likely washout from the CFL to one, is more than just a little bit over the top.
