Where should I eat in Iowa City?

I'm bumrushing the land of the Hawkeyes Wednesday through Sunday for a Creative Nonfiction conference. I plan on eviscerating Dirty John's of their Fantome and Cantillon beer stock while I'm at it. But I need places to eat, too.

So I ask you, Planet Iowanians/Iowegians, where should I be eating In Iowa City? I will have a car, if that helps.

xoxo,
Reaper

I'd leave that city. Immediately.

Buck 11-02-2010 08:38 PM

Shit, have you ever been to Iowa? I don't think they have restaurants.

RustShack 11-02-2010 08:40 PM

Buffalo Wild Wings.

I've been to Ames. It doesn't have room to talk.

What? I've been to Iowa. I literally think the only restaurant I saw was in the back of a gas station, and it wasn't anything like OK Joes either.

Get in the car and drive to Des Moines for some Tasty Tacos.

There's one in Iowa City, I believe.

When I was there for the Penn State game my friends GF brought home some Pizza Ranch.. it was pretty good. But I had been drinking heavily before that. I think I just had Taco Bell the night before when I was there too... Oh and McDonalds.

Lone Star. In Coraville I think.. I haven't been to that one but the one in Waterloo is good.

That may have even been in Missouri or Nebraska. It's possible that in my time in Iowa I didn't see a single building that didn't have to do with corn or coal.

If you name off any more chain restaurants, Reaper is going to choke you right the **** out through his monitor.

I'm fairly certain he'd appreciate some Mom 'n Pop local joints that are unique to the city.

Its possible when I was in Cali, I didn't see a single white guy that wasn't gay and high. If they weren't that, theres a pretty good chance they were illegal immigrants.

Just saying.
