keg in kc 01-01-2013 05:25 PM

214.2 this morning.

Just got my first run of the year in, 37:30. It was 21 degrees and there was snow on the ground and I feel like the year's off to a great start.

Ceej 01-01-2013 05:37 PM

I'm in.

After I don't eat tonight and throw up 325423414 times I'll be sure to weigh myself.

The Franchise 01-01-2013 05:38 PM

I'm in. I'll weigh myself tomorrow morning and post it in the thread.

ArrowheadHawk 01-01-2013 05:44 PM

I'm in. I participated a couple years ago but then I gave up. I now weigh more than before. Starting point 271 lbs.

pr_capone 01-01-2013 05:56 PM

Great Expectations 01-01-2013 05:57 PM

BlackHelicopters 01-01-2013 05:58 PM

Starting at 240. Biggest I have ever been. 2012 was bad.

Hootie 01-01-2013 06:20 PM

I'm exactly 200 with my work clothes/shoes on. I would like to get down to 190 by March 1st. I've been working out every day up until New Years Eve. I will go tonight after work at 11 PM.

jd1020 01-01-2013 07:04 PM

I'm in.

Got busy last year and lost track with what I was eating and how much I was eating.

Started at 190 last year, now I'm back up to around 212 but I'll have to weigh myself tomorrow.

Hootie 01-01-2013 07:07 PM

today my workout is going to be this:

Cardio: 5 minutes on 6.0, 2 minutes walk, 2 minutes 7.3, 1 minute walk (4.0), 2 minutes 7.3, 1 minute walk, 2 minutes at 7.5, 1 minute walk, 2 minutes at 7.5, 1 minute walk, 2 minutes at 7.7, 1 minute walk, 2 minutes at 7.7, 4 minutes walk

Lifting: 5X5 flies, 10X3 hammer curls, endurance curls, shoulder press, 12 minute ab work out

tomorrow will be same cardio and legs and back

Hootie 01-01-2013 07:08 PM

I get bored running on the treadmill UNLESS I do intervals and I'm hoping to increase my top speed to over 8 sometime in the next two weeks

Buck 01-01-2013 07:09 PM

Damn how come you're doing so much cardio on lift days?

Mr. Flopnuts 01-01-2013 07:13 PM

I'm in. I'm not telling my tale in numbers. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Hootie 01-01-2013 07:15 PM

Quote:

Originally Posted by Buck (Post 9265840)

I do both, it's usually about an hour workout. I am trying to do cardio every single day for the next 3 months. I was really disappointed with myself yesterday when I skipped and took a nap after work instead. I had a small window and I failed. That was disappointing, but I was really tired.

The cardio part takes 29 minutes. I have gradually increased speed over the past 3 weeks...I started at 7, 7.2, 7.4 and struggled...now I'm up to 7.7 and sometimes I feel like I could keep going, but I don't want to over exert myself and make up excuses to not go.

I always hit my arm days...sometimes I'm lazy on leg days. I feel like I'm still getting a decent workout in my legs every day I run, though.

Hootie 01-01-2013 07:17 PM

I feel like anyone who doesn't enjoy "jogging" for 10-15 straight minutes should really try the 2 minute running hard, 1 minute walking intervals. I used to struggle jogging 1-1.5 miles and now I do 3 miles at an average pace of just under 10 minutes with these intervals, warm-up and cool down. It also keeps you from being discouraged when you get "tired", look down, see you only have 30 seconds until walking for a minute and you can push through it.

My roommate does the intervals but instead of walking he just jumps to the side of the treadmill...I prefer walking, but I've done both. People look at you kind of weird when you do the side thing.

Fat Elvis 01-01-2013 07:18 PM

If anyone wants info on Keto, let me know. I'm down to 198 this morning and was 295 a year ago, and 330 at my highest. GoChiefs also lost over 100 lbs doing a similar, if not the exact same diet. Not every diet is perfect for everyone, but I'm really into this one, and I think it has great results.

Spott 01-02-2013 10:10 PM

Lost 24 lbs in the last year or so. At 159 now, hope to stay under 160 and continue going to the gym 3-4 times a week and running about 10-12 miles a week.

Silock 01-02-2013 10:44 PM

cdcox 01-02-2013 11:50 PM

Yeah, I'm curious about this... shoot us some of your favorite recipes?

cdcox 01-03-2013 01:26 AM

I'm probably going with the slow carb diet, which is basically meat or eggs+beans+veggies.

I strongly prefer well seasoned all-in-one recipes to individual portions of food. So here's what I have so far:

1. Chilli
2. Ground beef or sausage + cabbage + onions + cannellini beans fried up in a pan and topped with sriracha sauce
3. Tuna, cannellini beans, tomatoes, olives, onions, olive oil, capers etc.
4. Ham and beans with a side of greens
5. Cassoulet (perhaps modified to remove any hidden carbs)
6. Modified gumbo (no roux :deevee: ) served over beans instead of rice???

What other all-in-one dishes with meat+beans+veggies do you guys have?

I'm set for breakfast (2 eggs + spiced black beans + greens) but still need 12 meals per week (I get a cheat day) for lunch and dinner and need more variety on my list.

Ultra Peanut 01-03-2013 02:17 AM

I'm like 5 pounds away from what I'd consider my absolute ideal weight right now, but I love this thread. Something in here inspired me to look at a thread I started seven (!) years ago:

I practically leaped off the scale and clicked my heels when I saw that I was under 220 for what is probably the first time in three or four years. I plan on never coming close to that mark ever again.

I started that adventure at 260 or thereabouts. I weigh 150 pounds today. It's not about following the One True Plan™ forever, or anything; you just have to slowly train yourself to make better choices about what your body needs and learn how to forget your inevitable Bad Days along the way. I've lost 20 pounds since mid-2011 with zero dietary restrictions, and was apparently none the worse for the countless times I felt like all of my progress was lost and the next time I stepped on a scale it would shatter under my girth.

It's still pretty hard to believe I'm a "totally healthy young woman," as my doctor put it after my last physical/bloodwork, but it seems like the habits and information I learned while on a super extreme very low cal/carb diet for a few months in 2006 helped me mostly stay on track. It's so weird to look back and realize how much more physically capable I am than I was from 15-22.

Keep it up, ladies and duders. <3

Spoiler!

I'm watching my carbs this time. I'm not paying attention to stuff that they might be (like yogurt and such), but I'm going to start avoiding stuff like bread, rice, and potatoes whenever possible. If I do eat rice, I will only eat brown rice. If I eat bread, it will only be whole wheat. I know it's not what everyone's doing, but I think this will work for me. Also, I'm trying to avoid high fructose corn syrup like it's the plague. I will be reading labels on that in order to do so.

Other than that, I'm using myfitnesspal again to track calories and exercise. I lost 45 lbs in six months last year. Gained 20 back in the last six months. Without saying my weight, I will say that my goal for this year is to lose 65 lbs. Seeing that I lost 45 in six months last year, I know this is completely doable.

Well here are the basics.

Pretty much every type of meat is ok...unless it's been soaking in some kind of sugary marinade or it has been breaded. Most cheeses are fine, as are most green veggies. Also some nuts/seeds like almonds, pumpkin seeds/pepitas are ok.

Most of my meals are a mix of some kind of meat w/ some kind of green, and sometimes cheese is involved. That sounds really basic, but there is so much you can do with that.

Ground beef, for instance, has many things you can do with it. My favorite is to brown and add just a small amount of tomato, some jalapeno, and then some cheese on top w/ pepperoni and pretend I'm eating a pizza.

Another ground beef thing I do is ground beef w/ egg and bacon + hot sauce. To be honest, I sorta just open my fridge and grab what sounds good at the moment and toss it in a pan.

But for the last 53 weeks I've basically been eating pork chops about once a week, steak once a week, chicken twice or three times a week, tritip every couple weeks...and usually with Asparagus. I would say I ate Asparagus 150+ days last year. I just love it, it's my favorite veggie by far, and I love it just as much as I love my favorite meat (bacon).

Of course, eating this way is super cheap, I don't drop $10 at a drive thru for food, ever...and I always have leftovers and I don't have to buy lunch at work.

whoman69 01-04-2013 09:36 PM

At one point last year I had lost 15 pounds but gained 9 back. It is what it is. I gain weight every fall and winter.

Alright, I'm starting today. I've eaten clean, no drinking, and I'll get off my fatass and get some exercise tomorrow. Wife just told me to go ahead and get the Season Tickets I've been wanting for the Chiefs next year. I have a lot to do, I gained a **** ton of weight back. I'm right at 4 bills. :(

keg in kc 01-06-2013 08:10 PM

I shouldn't be surprised by this after long experience, but not going out to eat for a single week has already dropped me 5 pounds. That may fluctuate by the 8th when I officially weigh, but I'm already under 210 again.

Running's been going well so far. 3.1 miles 1/1, 3.2 1/3 and 3.3 1/4. Minimal knee problems. I'll be doing three 40 minute runs this week.

Weather may even allow me on my bike a time or two (although I have some work to do on it first).

Tell me about it. I was wearing running shoes while playing basketball. ****ing stupid, no ankle support. The worst part is that we were on our 3rd and last game of 21, so I had been playing approximately 2 hours at that point and I developed a huge blister on my other foot right where I want to put all the pressure...It's horrible.
