Trouble connecting TV to laptop via HDMI

1 Attachment(s)
As of about a week ago, I can no longer get my laptop display to extend to our HDTV. It has always just worked when I plug in the HDMI cable, until the last couple times I've tried it. I have an Asus laptop with Windows 7, and a Dynex TV, I've attached a screenshot with some information regarding my PC, and the device manager window open.

Any suggestions welcome, for some reason I haven't had any luck searching for a solution to what I think would have to be a fairly common problem.

Thanks!

With the HDMI cable plugged in, right click on your desktop and select resolution.

Show us a screenshot of that.

I took the laptop Downstairs and I got it to work plugged into my Onkyo htrc360. I will go back up and do that after this movie. Thanks for the reply though.

Here is what the screenshot looks like now, with the HDMI plugged in. I do see that it is extended in the screenshot, but it isn't coming up on the TV.

Welp, I'm 95% sure it's the cable. I could run one more test to make sure, but that would mean unplugging one of my HDMI cables from the back of my receiver from my DVD player, or PS3, and taking it back upstairs to the first TV and testing that cable up there. But they're all zip tied together and that would be a pain.

The cable in question is a pretty cheap one I got from Amazon some time ago, is that dumb? I've read a lot of different places that HDMI is HDMI, and I definitely am not going to buy the diamond one for $10K, but does anyone have any suggestions for cheap HDMI cables that won't shit out after a year? This cable has actually acted weird on us pretty much as long as we've had it, so it's not surprising that it's taken a shit on us finally.

I know the question has been asked and answered a hundred times, but thanks for any suggestions.

I'd honestly be pretty surprised if it was the cable. If you get one though, get it from monoprice.

I doubted it too, but this cable has been weird when connecting my wife's laptop to the receiver as well. I took the laptop and cable downstairs and tried to hook it up to the receiver (in several different input slots) and it didn't work. Then I unhooked the DVD player's cable from the back of the DVD player and plugged it into the laptop, then it worked fine.

Then I hooked the messed up cable to the laptop and hooked it into the back of the receiver into the DVD player's slot and it wouldn't work. Then I tried the messed up cable in other open slots on the receiver again and it also wouldn't work.

If I could get one of the other HDMI cables free and take it upstairs to the original TV, I think that would be about the last test I could run to make me think it's definitely the cable.

I just removed the cable from the DVD player and took it upstairs to the original TV and as soon as I connected the laptop to it, everything worked just fine. I'm pretty sure it was the cable, I'm also pretty sure I'm talking to myself, but if anyone wants to chime in with an opinion on my diagnosis it would be appreciated.

Crazy - sounds like the cable to me. I still wouldn't necessarily worry about the quality of the cable too much - I've had dozens of cheap cables work just fine.

Thank you kind sir, I didn't expect it to be the cable either, but I'm pleasantly surprised. This is a refurb Asus that I just got a couple weeks ago, I was worried for a while that it was crap. So far no complaints though.
