Jared Gaither

Remember how he was supposed to be awesome? He was active against the Lions.

Where the hell is he? I know we didn't cut him. Why don't we put his fat ass on the field?

Steron 10-14-2011 10:03 AM

Who?

OnTheWarpath15 10-14-2011 10:04 AM

You can say that (remember how he was supposed to be awesome) about every FA we signed this year except Breaston. They've all been major disappointments, including Breaston up until Week 4.

Sofa King 10-14-2011 10:04 AM

He's getting in football shape. He'll be starting soon (i ****ing hope).

alpha_omega 10-14-2011 10:05 AM

I have been wondering the same thing. Especially given the less than stellar play of #67.

The only times i have seen him is when we bring an extra OL, or when #76 went down for a bit.

Fritz88 10-14-2011 10:06 AM

The Raiders were right when they failed his ass.

Their fans also told us that Breaston's knees were shot to hell and that his career was donezo

ModSocks 10-14-2011 10:13 AM

We're saving him for the playoffs.

SuperChief 10-14-2011 10:16 AM

Quit shitting on my family. Jesus.

O.city 10-14-2011 10:28 AM

I think (hope) the thinking behind this is, lets wait till he's fully healthy. Because if he is healthy now and isn't playing, thats on the coaching staff becausee he is tons better than Richardson.

You think McClain has been a disappointment? Maybe you need to manage your expectations.

Chiefnj2 10-14-2011 10:29 AM

I vaguely recall the announcers saying Gaither was in the game when KC kneeled the final play or two this past week.

aturnis 10-14-2011 10:30 AM

How hasn't McClain been a disappointment?

They signed him to a one-year deal to be a lead blocker. Everyone expected him to be used as a power runner. Managing expectations.

aturnis 10-14-2011 10:52 AM

How's he been as a lead blocker? How 'bout as a pass catcher?

He's only been targetted six times and caught three of them. Further, he's only had seven run attempts. Obviously the coaches aren't utilizing him how you EXPECTED. He's being used as a lead-blocker, and he's good at it. Basing your disappointment on a 2.1 ypc stat based on a sample size of seven runs is reerunED.

Or Gregg. Maybe not what we hoped but I don't see Powe out there

Honestly, I don't mind that Powe isn't out there. I think Amon Gordon has played surprisingly well.

whoman69 10-14-2011 01:45 PM

I was sure the coaching staff checked with chiefsplanet every week before deciding the inactives each week. Bummer to hear that's not true. My guess is if he's still inactive because he's not ready to get on the field yet.

Dude, he hasn't been inactive since Buffalo. He's just not on the field except as a fill-in for Albert or Richardson, both of whom have been relatively healthy.

If he's not on the field its because he's not ready except as an emergency. I can't believe that if Gaither is up to it physically that he could be behind Richardson who has been horrible every week.

I am fairly confident he failed his physical due to a lack of heart.

kcxiv 10-14-2011 06:02 PM

They arent going to plug in Gaither ALOT unless someone gets hurt. They dont want to put to much on him because of the issues he has had with his back. I think they want to just bring him on slowly, let his back get stronger and stronger and hope that eventually his back problems will be an issue of the past.

At least thats how i think they are doing it. I know HE cannot be worse then Richardson, so for me, its the only reasonable explanation.

Haley also said today that Gaither can play both left and right tackle now. #chiefs

Gaither better be playing RT. Richardson protecting Palko's blindside is going to get him killed.

He may not be ready to go a full NFL season, but this is a low risk high reward kind of thing. If he doesn't get healthy, so what, you have a backup who can play in spots, you aren't out a thing. If he does get healthy though, you've got an important piece of the puzzle and won't have to draft one. Why rush him back and screw that up?

Smed1065 11-14-2011 04:27 PM

Its hard to consider logic while dealing with the Chiefs. I mean look @ the QB position.

O.city 11-14-2011 04:34 PM

I'm thinking this is the week he starts at RT.

Agree. He'd better, or Palko will be running for his life every single play.

He's listed behind Albert on the depth chart. I remember the coaches making it clear he was a a left tackle. I believe the coaching sucks.

KCrockaholic 11-15-2011 09:45 AM

You guys do realize he played a few snaps last week right?

Rasputin 11-15-2011 09:57 AM

Reminds me of Kyle Turley. Kyle Turley was supposed to be a bad ass, but with his back issues he was just bad.

When Jared got here, I think there was the hope that Jared could regain his once probowl form. Possibly move Albert to the right or inside. If not that, at least replace Richardson as the starter and be a great RT.

Now it's "a few snaps". The guy basically has been a letdown. Thought we could have had a steal. Guess not.

Truley was far older when we plucked him from the scrap heap than Gaither is currently. Turley had much less of an upside.

About time for a benching?

Right tackle Barry Richardson (-6.6) has displayed some horrible performances in a Chiefs uniform. This most recent one marks the third time this season Richardson has graded at -6.0 or worse, which, frankly, indicates that he’s just not that good of a tackle. So how much longer can Richardson turn in these kind of games before the Chiefs go to Jared Gaither, either at right tackle himself or by moving Brandon Albert there and inserting Gaither on the left. Gaither has shown he can get it done in the past and though he is something of an enigma right now, wouldn’t it be better to see if he can still play than to let the guy who rarely if ever plays at a high level continue inhibiting the offense? Poor pass protection over the last few weeks has already cost Cassel some time and potentially the season. Sooner or later, Richardson is going to run out of opportunities.

BossChief 11-15-2011 08:05 PM

When Gaither came in last week, he came in for Albert.

Im still wondering what we got in this Maneri guy we picked up off NE cuts way back when.

If they have any care for Palko, they would put him at RT. Especially next week.
