I know what you're saying. I understand. You've got to consider, though, how you felt about music that you listened when you were a kid whenever you were in your 30's. It's weird to consider that I'm at an age where kids now are saying "It's what my parents listened to" and their parents are my age. Hip-hop is a newer genre. However, it is to us what rock-n-roll probably was to you.

Old school, yes. I like all kinds of stuff. Classic country, classic rock, nearly anything that came out of the 80's (including hip-hop), soft rock, pop, etc. Nothing really heavy, though. What I listen to depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

Depends on what you consider old school. His earliest songs are nearly a decade old, though.

It's funny because if you listen to Def Jam era Beastie Boys and old Run DMC they actually refer to themselves as new school, and L.O.N.S. obviously considered themselves new school. It's a blurred line, really.
I guess they considered BDP and Juice crew stuff old school.
I generally consider old school like Midnight Marauders and earlier, because that was sort of the last of the cassette tape era, but to each his own.

Lately, I've considered it anything my nieces and nephew have never heard of before...lol. My oldest niece is 13. I'd say the cassette tape era is a good description to me. Basically most things about 15-20 years ago or older?

I agree,if it was released on cassette it's prolly old school.

I do own a 12 inch vinyl record of "Ill Communication".

I think that when the Beasties released that, they were throwing it back
to an even earlier time.

There is nothing "old school" about hip hop.

Thats where the term came from really. lol

The Beastie Boys definitely do that stuff. They like giving nods to old references and acts, too.

Biz Markie was great. I was looking for an old Big Daddy Kane song "Just Rhymin with Biz" but I couldn't find a decent one. It's one of the great early rap songs. Big Daddy Kane was outstanding on it.

Okay, I'll actually post more.
