Anybody else watching this development?

Chris Roberts of Freelancer and Wing Commander fame is building the next gen space sim for the PC. He decided to forgo a publisher, and is crowd funding the game. Money pledged so far exceeds $24 million.

It will have a single player campaign and basically what amounts to an MMO-like online experience. And it looks very pretty so far. It gives good space porn, and the feature list sounds pretty incredible.

I have been watching it. seems massive. ALMOST bought in, but haven't pulled the trigger.

I am not sure I want to interact via the web and play the game separately, which seems to be what they are going for.

I will likely spend money on this.

It looks really cool, but it's hard to say at this point.

Not sure what you mean by that, so maybe this reply is way off base for what you're talking about, but I have the impression that it will be instanced in a similar fashion to Guild Wars I, with lots of different areas and a limit of about 100 players per area before a new instance is created.

Haven't seen anything about interacting via the web.

.. I only watched the video, and the way it seems presented to me is that its a single player experience, with co-op mode/pvp, and the main social interaction is done via the web.

There will be a complete single player campaign called Squadron 42. And your friends can join you in that. I think this may be where you are getting the wrong impression.

There will be online multiplayer.

I pledged quite a while back and plan on playing more when they get further along. Right now it's just a dogfighting module, so I haven't played all that much.

i pledged when it first when on kickstarter, haven't played any of the alpha yet because I don't really care

$30 gets you in the door. Other ships can be bought with in game credits.

never was a fan of flight sims, i did play the one with mark hamil in it though.

Yea pretty sure that was wing commander.. which was made by the same guy making star citizen.

I dunno.
