New Dream Theater

Dream Theater has a new album to be released September 24th.

It sounds great, as always. This is Mike Mangini's first album where he had full creative input. Let's just say roto toms are back. And the classic keyboard sound is prominent in some songs. It sounds like a good mix of old (original) Dream Theater with new (modern/recent). It's got some rockin' riffs, for sure. But this is definitely a more prog sounding album, IMO.

Thiago Campos does these split screen covers. Obviously, they are huge DT fans. Anyway, I thought these are pretty cool.

At this point I actually like the previous album better. Illumination Theory is a thing of beauty though.

He doesn't actually use rototoms, they are "cannon toms" made super deep from aluminum.

Watched a few more of those, that Thiago Campos dude is impressive to me. Hadn't heard of him. How long will it take for Dane to jump in and say hey couldn't play in a bar band in North Dakota?

After having had this for about a week (and listening to it via stream for an additional week) I have to say that I agree. IMO, A Dramatic Turn Of Events was a better record. It is one of my favorite all time DT albums, right up there with I&W and Scenes. I do like this new album. It has some really cool stuff in it. But it's gonna take a little longer to really grow on me.

That Enemy Inside song is still just nasty good.
