Headphones
OK, I am tired of the ear buds that come with the iPhone/iPod. Looking for some good over the ear headphones. Not wanting to drop $200+ on Beats by Dre or anything. $50 or less is my price range.
I've looked at the iFrogz Vertex and SkullCandy Hesh 2.0. Anyone one these or have recommendations on another pair? |
Do you want a mic with it? Do you like Bass?
I got the VModa bass freq earbuds for like $50 for my S3 and it works great. |

Go buy a pair of cheap noise-cancelers. Not only does the battery power cancel noise, it also provides a sound boost.
|
DRE BEATS!!!!!! not worth the money my brother gave me his pair before going back to Afghanistan
|
I bought a pair of in-ear bose for about 80....wasnt worth the money. Returned them and bought a 50-60 dollar sony in-ear.
Couldnt be happier at that price. And yes, beats by dre suck |
Sennheiser is a good brand imo. Check slick deals for a good prices, then check reviews for said model.
|
Get some old school RCA headphones off ebay.
|
If you can stretch your budget a little bit, I recommend these Shure headphones. Really durable and they sound great.
|
Sennheiser HD 280 PRO.
A bit above your price range but if you can stretch your budget a bit you might be able to score a pair for ~$75 if you look around. |
Any cheap noise cancelers sound fine and are an improvement over pack-in phones
|
Look on Amazon. Lots of highly highly reviewed out there for way less than $50.
|
Why do Beats suck? Had my solo HD's for a year now, use them every day at work & at the gym. Best $150 i ever spent.
|
I'm looking for the best noise reduction. Sound quality doesn't matter much to me (within reason) but I want to block out all outside noise. And no, I don't want a mic. What would be a good choice?
|
If your problem with the standard earbuds is comfort, you may not need to go all the way to over-ear headphones for relief. I use some inexpensive JVC earbuds with marshmallow soft earpieces that produce decent sound and are very comfortable even after long periods. I even sleep with mine in sometimes, which is something I never could have done with Apple's standard issue buds. They do a pretty good job of blocking out external sound too. Best of all, they're only $10-15 or so (even cheaper for some colors). Search for "JVC Marshmallow" on amazon.com or click on the picture below for a black pair that's selling for $10.70.

I'm partial to Sennheiser and Pioneer. For your purposes a pair of lower end Sennheiser will sound amazing and be near your $ range. Someone already said the HD280 Pro. Do yourself a favor and grab those. :thumb:
|
Sennheiser CX 475 in-ear --- love them
|
Those JVCs might not be too bad. I had a pair like that from Koss a while back that were similar. You couldn't hear *anything* and they sounded pretty good. A little too much on the bass (just like everything from Koss) but overall good for the price.
The big thing is to understand your needs. If you want something that's going to be used for running, then big over the ear's probably aren't the way to go. Stability is as important as anything else in that situation. I also wouldn't run with those marshmallow earbuds because you might not hear cars around you. If you're going to be wearing them for hours at a time, spend a little money and get something that's going to be comfortable. Same thing for the sound. If they sound like ass, then you won't actually end up using them as much. Oh, and for sound quality once you get a pair of good headphones you'll quickly see that it does matter as you start pulling out old albums to listen to again. The Beatles albums in particular are almost like new if you have the remasters and some half way decent speakers or headphones. |

But the sound is excellent for in ear jobs, they have all metal plugs and speaker housings along with quality materials, and they were in the $60 range. I couldn't be happier with them. I looked for them on V-Moda's website and couldn't find them. But you might try there. I really like them. |
I got my Sennheiser HD 202 Headphones off Amazon and love them! $25.00
|
Go with Sennheiser's, which is a TRUE professional brand, and not just a marketing gimmick (like BEATS).
|
I have a pair of Denon noise-cancelers that are life savers on flights.

Had them for over a year and use them daily in the gym & during football warm-ups. Dropped them a hundred times and still good to go. Are there better headphones for that price? Sure. Do they sound good? Hell yeah.. especially if you like bass. |

I like Beats Audio quality and I shouldn't have knocked them, but I really do prefer other brands for the price (Same with Bose). There is a significant markup on Beats audio right now due to the popularity like someone else mentioned. Audio Technica and Sennheiser both make fantastic headphones that can be found online for cheaper. |
Anyone have experience with ear-buds made specifically for running/activity so they dont fall out, but offer high end audio quality & bass? Budget is $150-200.

For in-ear headphones I use Klipsch s4's. They'll run you about $70-80. They have a pretty thin wire and some people complain about it breaking but I haven't had a problem with it. The only time it broke was when I left it out and my cat thought it was a toy. I love'em. The sound is pretty awesome and its constantly compared to the quality of headphones that run you $200+. I personally can't verify that since I'm not stupid enough to spend that kind of money on headphones.

How about in ear "earbuds" with a cloth/fabric covered cord? Preferably decent sound, not picky. For my fiance who mostly listens to audio books. Maybe under $30? Sick of buying cheap sets over and over. The cloth seems to extend the life considerably.

I'm sure other electronics stores can do the same things, but I got good service from Radio Shack, so I'll plug them. |
Sony MDR-V150's. You can get a pair for about $25.
I've owned a half-dozen of these over the years. They sound great, but they need to be carefully handled. Every pair I've owned has broken the exact same way. They have improved the durability of the design over the years, but you can't just toss these around. Or...JVC HARX300's. Those go for a shade under $20. I buy headphones on a regular basis from Burlington Coat Factory. You won't find recognizable brand names there, but you can get a quality sound for a cheap price. I routinely buy headphones and earbuds there for $10 or less. Just bought a pair of "over the ear" iVibes that I love. Great mid-range and low end. They leave a little to be desired up top, but again they only cost $11. |
I have these:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg Skullcandy Agent. They are awesome. I wear them to mow and they're perfect for drowning out the mower. |

I've boughten these 3 separate times enforce finally getting the insurance beat buy offers.. The headphone jack always ends up coming apart, but for the 5 or so bucks the insurance that lasts 2 years I'm not complaining. These are the best sounding for the price I've experienced |

I buy headphones on a regular basis from Burlington Coat Factory.
You won't find recognizable brand names there, but you can get a quality sound for a cheap price.
At some point won't you end up buying enough to equal one pair of sturdy high quality headphones? I mean...listen to Paradise City on a good pair of headphones once and you'll hear things you never could before. |
I have skullcandy titans. Theyre earbuds.
Usually ill have a pair of headphones for about a month before they crap out but ive had these for about 4 or 5 months and theyre still going strong (knock on wood) |

I might spend $30 annually on headphones. I currently have three pair of 'over the ear' headphones: 1. A pair of Sony MDR-V150's (held together with duct tape) 2. A pair of Skullcandy SCS-SCBP3.5's (which I hate...they require batteries for the subwoofer action) 3. A new pair of iVibe I-V110's (the high end is average, but the mid-range and low-end are excellent) The iVibe's ran me $10 at BCF. The iVibe's were the last headphones I purchased. The Skullcandy headphones were a gift. The Sony MDR-V150's I've probably had for about a year now. I've spent maybe $36 on headphones the past 12-15 months. I have picked up a few pairs of earbuds though (for the gym). The iWorld earbuds (modeled after the Beats By Dre earbuds) are amazing. They fit comfortably and have excellent sound quality. I messed them up during a workout though. The iWorld earbuds were also $10 at BCF. If you want good quality for a low price, that's the way to go. You can also find quality OTE headphones at Big Lot's. Online? Try Amazon. |
Sennheiser HD 201 headphones are really great for their low price (I got mine for $21). I use them on my desktop PC. The cord is 3m long which is great for having it connected to the back of my PC and going around my desk which the PC is in. Might be a but inconvenient to take places without a cord length reducer thing. But overall great headphones for the quality and price, definitely worth it!
Can't post pics yet so here's the link to a photo of the headphones: img.diytrade.com/cdimg/1150214/12582838/0/1271917987/Economy_Sennheiser_HD201_hot_paypal.jpg |

Seems to me you could save some money by buying higher-quality gear. :D |
I use the Sennheiser HD202's for my guys recording in my home studio. They are cheap to replace if they get broken and a great bang for the buck.
I personally use Audio-Technica's ATH-M40fs in my studio... but they are more of a flat response for mixing purposes. http://ak.buy.com/PI/0/300/203325391.jpg |

What are they being used for? How often are they being used? How are they being stored?... Headphones break. Cheap headphones break. Expensive headphones break. I'm a heavy-user and I tend to be hard on mine anyway. So I'm not sure spending more money would do me any justice. I'd NEVER pay $50 or more for headphones unless I was using them for mixing purposes. For casual usage (listening to music), I'll always run with headphones under $25. And I think I showed you my watering holes for buying them cheap, you'd see why. For the buck, you just can't beat the headphones I come by. Quality, look, durability. I'd wager half my paycheck on that. I do want a pair of Beats though. Just can't bring myself to spend that much right now. |

I also wear them when I work outside and mow. I can't tell you how many times I've snagged the cord and violently yanked them off of my head, unplugged them from the MP3 player, or both. Mine have had the shit beat out of them and they work like new. |
I have these, they came with my phone.
Sound pretty good for free. http://shimshop.net/samsung/samsung-...headset-02.jpg |
