I thought the same thing, mostly because of the total mental collapse including HIV denial. Then I realized that you have to have some sort of empathy for the protagonist of a film and he seems like he is pretty irredeemable. By all accounts he seems to be a self-destructive asshole. Interesting story, though, for sure.

He was my first wife's backyard neighbor growing up , he was a few years older. We married around the time of his height. He would always give us tickets to local matches and went to the Rocky V premiere, I didn't know him well so we didn't "chat", but at the time all things considered he was a "nice" enough guy. After we divorced I would see him around OP and the like at the bars with the most questionable women you could imagine. I remember being in a bar back in his heyday (but pre-Rocky V)....and he showed up.

Never forget overhearing a girl standing next to me, bragging to her friend that she slept with him.

She walks up to Tommy and chats (and I can overhear this).....and Tommy doesnt remember her at all.
