Is your cell phone service down?

I like a certain restaurant on Facebook, and they posted earlier that, if you're one of 10 million people without cell phone service, and you go in and tell them the name of your carrier, you'll get 10% off your order.

Then, I overhear an attorney on the phone saying that he and his wife's cell phones both stopped working simultaneously. They're on AT&T.

Anyone else having this problem, or is it just a local thing? Like maybe a cell tower down?

att has worked fine since the day i got it (except for when i go fishing, there is no service there)

No, but my cordless landline went down 3 days ago and is still sketchy.

I plugged in the "nuclear phone" (old cord, old office phone) and it's working ok...

Yeah, AT&T got nuked today. There's a huge thread on it on the AT&T forums. No one in KC, Wichita or Springfield has service.

They better be giving me a huge amount of money back on my bill.

AT&T is currently experiencing a broad cellular voice and data outage for users in Kansas and Missouri.
All Agency cellular devices are affected.
Currently, there is no ETA on when services will be restored.

Yeah, we finally dropped our land line a couple years ago. But ATT wireless service has been great for the past decade that we've had them.

As for their other services such as dsl, they sucked for us.

They will, I think I read they plan to refund 38 cents to each customer over the next 12 months. Oh and they are distributing 1/2 price coupons for a free phone. :p

In all seriousness AT&T cell service has been great, but that company is run by ****s. They're internet on the other hand is shit while on the other other hand U-Verse is awesome. It just sucks when it crashes and you have an indian guy telling you there are no outages in your area while your ****ing tv won't TURN ON AND YOU START TO LOSE YOUR SHIT BECAUSE YOU CAN'T WATCH BONES

Well I don't know if you're talking from experience or something else, but I can say from my experience that ATT cell service has been just fine.

Although my service has not yet been restored. Perhaps I should try to reboot my phone?

Fewer dropped calls than Sprint. Ironic, as Sprint's HQ is not too far from my pos.

I loved it when I worked there and my calls would drop as I pulled into campus...

That's not completely true. It depends on what you're doing. I have "just a little experience" in the field.
As for AT&T's problem yesterday, there's only about 3 things that could have happened and 2 of them are highly unlikely.
Before we get into a disagreement about Sprint having the fewest outages, remember that both AT&T and Verizon have to report all FCC outages, not just cellular. Sprint doesn't serve any landline based customers, but AT&T and Verizon do. I don't remember the exact critera for a reportable outage, but part of it is anything that effects more than 30K subscribers. Sprint does serve some customers for data and such via fiber, but the likelihood for that to fail to the point of an outage reportable to the FCC is pretty slim.

I'm on AT&T. Last night I was out on the other side of town and the roads were pretty slick here in Wichita, apparently there was a massive wreck near my house and my friends and family were texting me and calling me over and over again to see if I was ok. Unfortunately, my phone wasn't getting any texts or calls, but I was able to access the internet just fine. Eventually I got everything at once at like 1 AM.

Hadn't heard of this problem until last night, but seems like a lot of people are experiencing it.
