NEW YORK (AP) -- Marshall Faulk's record-setting ride for the St. Louis Rams earned him the NFL's Most Valuable Player award in balloting conducted by The Associated Press and announced Wednesday.

I was kinda pulling for Gannon, but oh well, it's hard to vote against 26 tds. <BR>

All I have to say is thank God gannon didn't win...

Dave Lane 12-27-2000 02:01 PM

I second that. I couldn't stand to think of the queen bee on the "other" board gloating about little Richie.

Evidently the voters didn't think as highly of Gannon's performance as they did of those by Faulk, McNabb, or Eddie George.

My guess is that they looked at the fact that the Raiders have a well balanced team and would win without Gannon(IMO) and decided that the others were more deserving.

Ouch... Faulk and George AND McNabb got more votes than Gannon.

Here's the numbers:

Faulk, 27 and in his seventh NFL season, received 24 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters. He beat Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb (11), Tennessee running back Eddie George (8), Oakland quarterback Rich Gannon (5), Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning (1) and Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis (1).

I`m elated Gannon didn`t get it!
Why do Chiefs fans pull for Raider players?!
I wouldn`t piss on Gannon if he were on fire!!!

milkman 12-27-2000 02:19 PM

I'm glad to see that he was nt even the number 1 QB on the list, it is not like his passing yards were very high at all.

Warrior5 12-27-2000 02:37 PM

I personally would vote for McNabb. Take him off that team and they are LUCKY to finish as well as LAST season, 3-13 I believe. Take Faulk, George, Gannon off thier respective clubs, and you'll still have 3 playoff teams.

BUT, hard to really argue with 26 TDs. Very impressive considering a position player outscored every other player(kickers included) by 25 points!!

BTW, Ray Lewis?!?

Sorry, but the Titans without Eddie George are the Pittsburgh Steelers. the Rams without Faulk are the 49'ers. Neither of the those teams are in the playoffs without them, in theory or in fact.

I completely agree with Johnny(#9).
Both teams would be out of the play-offs.
But, Philly would be hopeless wothout McNabb.

I don`t argue Faulk winning this-just think McNabb was more deserving.

Gracie Dean 12-27-2000 03:13 PM

I think Faulk is very deserving. If the Vikes didn't go on a 3 game skid, I think their QB takes the MVP. Faulk came on VERY hard at the end of the year and if he didn't miss 2 games early on he takes the MVP running away.

I'll not belabor the Gannon candidacy. It's been beat to death and frankly is moot.

TEX 12-27-2000 03:44 PM

I'm glad for Faulk with 1 exception...it gives that lambs fans fodder for excreting more BS next year....I thought Faulk should have gotten this award last year.

I'm really really glad gannon didn't win...other places are sometimes unbearable enough...

redbrian 12-27-2000 07:03 PM

The Raiders with Bobby Hoying at QB are NOT a playoff team.

You people can bash Gannon all you want, but he IS very important to that ball club.

OK OK, I give already!! I was exagerating a bit, Ok, hugely exagerated. My point is there is a ton of talent on STL, OAK, TEN(maybe not a ton, but still plenty) rosters minus the aforementioned MVP candidates, IND as well. Who else does Philly have? A good young TE, and, uh, well, ....

Anyway, that's the only point I was attempting to make.
