Dyson DC41 Animal Vacuum

Been thinking about buying a new vacuum that picks up pet hair. Kitties are shedding everywhere. I'm checking out the Dyson DC41 Bagless Animal model. It sells anywhere from $500 to $650 depending on the seller. Anybody have experience with Dyson, and are they worth the extra money? You can buy a Hoover or Bissel for around $300 to $400. Thoughts?

When you say "animal vacuum", this is the first thing that comes to mind.

When I was a kid we had a cat that liked to be vacuumed. We had the old cannister type with a long hose. She'd get in your way until you vacuumed her. Her tail would go up in the hose and you'd have to pull it out. Weird.

I have a lower end DC17 that I picked up a couple years ago for $300. Its the best Ive ever owned, but before it I always bought cheapies from Walmart. Its easy to clean, and cleans the carpets extremely well.

Have that exact model and it's great. Bought it on Black Friday in 2011. About three weeks ago the brush stopped spinning, so I called Dyson to ask what I needed to fix it (it still worked with plenty of suction, it just annoyed the hell out of me).....Lady ran through about 2 minutes worth of "try this" and then said, "Well there's a five year warranty on it....I'll send out a new head and you should have it in no more than three days." They sent it Fed-Ex overnight apparently, because it showed up the next day.
Seemed expensive for a vacuum, even on Black Friday, but if this thing ever dies, I'll get another at twice the cost.

According to Consumer Reports, this is the best bang for the buck and is rated "Excellent" for pet hair.

I bought the wife a dc25 animal a few years back. Wasn't cheap, but she loves it, it is the best vaccum I've ever owned.

Does it have a reverse setting, where you can shoot out pet hair like a gun? That would be cool.....

There is a brand that is made in either Kansas or Missouri that would be about half as much as that Dyson and is supposed to be a very good vacuum. Can't remember the name.
