I hadn't even noticed that. I wonder why the hell they'd be in a Cobalt though - not exactly a good car to transport a bunch of equipment in.

Especially not their equipment, so either:

A) They were with a team and someone else was driving the equipment truck

or B) This wasn't a research chase for them

That said, given the monster width of the tornado, it answers part of the reason so many chasers were likely caught off guard.
