No doubt in my mind Pioli would draft an ILB and trade the second round pick for Alex Smith. I watched the whole game last night and kapernick embarrased the bears "ballhawk" defense, 49ers wouldn't be shipping him off anytime soon. And everytime I see big armed Jason Cambell I see "upside", and he's black too. Could probably like run off tackle, or something.

Harbaugh flirted with Manning and tried to replace Smith in the offseason. They know that Smith has a certain "Ceiling" and probably reached it last season. No way they let Kaepernick get away.

IN fairness, Kaepernick is a little different. He was a high 2nd rounder, not a low 6th or 7th round guy the Chiefs usually go for. He was fairly well thought of coming out and obviously has a huge upside.
