My step father passed away early this morning. He was a Gulf War veteran and served 12 years in the army. The last three weeks he developed severe headaches and short term memory problems. My mother was forced to contact her congressman to try and push the process faster with the VA. It was learned on Wednesday that he had a mass in his brain. The VA scheduled him for an appointment with a neurologist on Monday. On Saturday he was rushed to the VA ER where it was determined the mass had moved to his brain stem very quickly.

My wife and I made it to the hospital just before he became unresponsive. I will never forget my step father gathering his strength to whisper that he loved me. He passed away a few hours later. I will miss him dearly. Please pray for my mother as she moves forward.

I don't know if this is inappropriate. I hate trying this. My mother has no funds to pay for the cost $8k of the funeral. The VA is reimbursing up to $2400. My wife and I are helping as much as we can. He had no life insurance. I know the power of the planet can be strong and since he was a veteran I want to be able to give him the proper burial he deserves. He's getting buried in the Ft. Dodge National Cemetary.

I lost my biological dad do to a brain tumor when I was in 6th grade. He was a Veitnam vet. The VA needs all the support they can get. The worst part was not getting spend time with him I deserved. He was sick for a long time. I hope this helps that your step dad didn't suffer long.

Sorry for your loss. Cherish the fact that one of the last things he did was tell you that he loved you. That is priceless, and far too many people don't have that opportunity. Consider yourself blessed even in this loss.
