Laptop advice needed

So my 12 year old son busts his ass all summer mowing lawns to save money for a laptop. I don't have one and don't know much about them, and he has about 500 bucks saved up so far. I told him not to jump out and buy the cheapest one he can get, as he has the money now for that. I told him to wait and save a little more (plus I would help out) for a middle of the road model. Problem is, I don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm hoping I can get some honest advice here. And yes, I also know a guy who frequents coffee shops who can get me one for fifty bucks, but I'd rather not go that route.

Keep in mind it's for a kid, he'll mostly play games and surf the web for porn, err, school projects and such.

I got a dell dude for $800, it's an upgrade over the old ass hp I had
I don't play games on it but it has enough to if I wanted but overall I'm pretty happy with it

where'd you get that

sounds nice for $650

I grabbed a Toshiba L305-S5877 on sale at Office Depot last week for $649 ($100 off).

15.4" screen
Intel Core 2 Duo T5750
3GB PC5300 SDRAM
200GB HDD

After shopping around for several months, this was the one that we liked best at the $650 price point. We were originally considering an HP, but a knowledgeable friend suggested that we consider the Toshiba instead. It has definitely exceeded our expectations, and I prefer it to the Dell laptop that I have at work.

Thanks for the input, fellas.

I got it at Microcenter but it was the last one - the Display model - they took an extra 10% off as well since it was the display model

I heard Staples might have some as well

Hey Slag,

How do I get excommunicated from the Catholic Church?

2 ways -

Excommunication can be either ferendae sententiae (declared as the sentence of an ecclesiastical court) or, far more commonly, latae sententiae (automatic, incurred at the moment the offensive act takes place). The excommunicant is still considered Christian and a Catholic as the character imparted by baptism is indelible.

Latae Sententiae would probably be your best bet, you could attend a womens "ordination" or help someone with an abortion - those are two common ways now adays

And if I remember correctly, if you go to confession you are then considered fully catholic...Right?

Call me, I sell IBM and Lenovo, teh best machine you can buy, I'll get you in one for around 450. Thinkpads are great workhorses. I payed like 350 for mine and it's been much better than my Dell`M` which died in like a yr. So yeah, I'd be glad to help you out. PM me if you're interested,

this is the bad boy I just bought!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834147758

Unfortunately, I bought it when it was $80.00 cheaper...and after the rebate $599.99 with free shipping for a computer with a duo core, 200 GB HD and 3 GB RAM is pretty badass...

Newegg has great deals all of the time, though...you will want to look over the next few weeks and buy one with at least 2 GB of RAM...that keeps everything running smoothly if you're just using a laptop for surfing and school...

Here is the search page:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2&N=2030260032

I search by best rating and like to read what other customers have to say about the product...

From what I read, Acer and Asus have really good laptops for the prices...but I'd steer clear from the Eee PC...it's too small if you ask me...I'd go for a 15.4" monitor...not real big but big enough...

Here is a good one...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115482

But like I said, just last week Newegg had a deal on that one I just linked for $549.99...so look everyday and when you see one of those shoot down in price...jump on it. That computer for $650 is a steal...$550 is just ridiculous.

Hope this helps, newegg is a great site for any electronics...I'll never buy from Best Buy again...you can read about the quality and get better prices online...and super fast shipping, too.
