*****Official Selection Sunday Game Thread*****

It will be on CBS at 6 eastern time, 5 central time.

Who do you think is the last 4 in? The last 4 out?

Trevo_410 03-17-2013 11:55 AM

Mizzou blows.

RustShack 03-17-2013 11:55 AM

Kentucky.

TribalElder 03-17-2013 11:55 AM

Kentucky out

RustShack 03-17-2013 11:55 AM

Give me North Carolina round one!

BigRedChief 03-17-2013 11:57 AM

What's the consensus? KU gets a #1 seed?

'Hamas' Jenkins 03-17-2013 11:57 AM

**** Haith, Pressey, and Bowers with a raped AIDS tree.

Gonzaga, Louisville are your locks. Kansas probably gets the third with Indiana getting the last one.

I'm sure they want Indiana since the B1G is supposed to be their power conference.

You can say worse things about almost every other team this year. Miami lost to ****ing In. State and Florida Gulf Coast.

You don't want that. Really. You don't. They're doing the same shit ISU loves to. Only with much, much better athletes.

They'll get it. They won the best conference in the regular season and held the #1 overall for so long that they'll get the nod. They'll still be the vegas favorite to win it all I'd imagine. No matter the seeding.

Anyone ever been to Dance Card? It correctly predicts usually all but one team in the field each year.

Yep. There's no shame in losing to Wisconsin. They have a damn, damn good defense and they know how to play the game to suit their abilities.

2-0 vs the top 25 and all other teams under consideration have at least 5 wins, and their SoS is 101.... but, you're probably right.

Louisville is probably the only team that should be a lock, and Indiana might have the 2nd best case for #1. I won't be heartbroken if KU ends up a #2, but they have as good of a case as any other team... they would be a lock, but their bad loss was really bad (granted, I tend to look at good wins before bad losses... it was really bad).

'Hamas' Jenkins 03-17-2013 12:21 PM

The problem with this year is that I essentially view every team as fraudulent. Might as well just throw darts at my bracket.

I agree w/ Bearcat on Gonzaga, but this year it just doesn't matter. Honestly, it rarely will anymore b/c college basketball is such a terrible, terrible product.

Pasta Little Brioni 03-17-2013 12:23 PM

Iowa St. is gonna get that one seed and a home game to boot.

Top 8 for me:
Gonzaga, Louisville, KU, Indiana
Duke, Miami (assuming they win), Ohio St, Florida

No coincidence the B1G is the "best" conference this year.

They might even let Melvin Weatherwax sit on the bench as honorary staff for the NIT Championship game.

Ultra Peanut 03-17-2013 12:29 PM

C'monnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, better than an 8-seed! That's all I'm hoping for, that the committee doesn't want to potentially throw a 30-4 #13 RPI team with 24 wins in its last 25 games at a #1 seed in the second round.

Also for Southern Miss to get in. Their resume is nothing special because C-USA was spectacularly bad from 3-12, but they're a ****ing beast to play and I love watching them.

tk13 03-17-2013 12:41 PM

Last year there were at least 3-4 teams like Kentucky, North Carolina, etc that stood out.

This year, you might really be better off throwing darts at a board. Indiana can get bogged down in half court games, KU lost a game to flipping TCU. Michigan limped to the finish line. Miami might get caught asleep against a weaker opponent. Duke looked strong with Kelly back, then promptly went out and lost their first game in the ACC tourney.

People rip on Gonzaga, and I probably won't pick them to win... but they certainly don't look much worse than everyone else. They pretty much ran through all the Big 12 teams they played this year.

Yeah. It's going to be one ****ed up tournament. Every team has their own little fatal flaw. Somebody has to string together six games and cut down that net though.

It's times like these, I'm just thankful for Bill Self. In Bill I trust. :thumb:

Indiana State has to be kicking themselves at the moment. If they hadn't completely collapsed at the end of the year the Missouri Valley might have gotten three teams in. They beat the ACC champ, SEC champ, whipped MVC champ Creighton by 20 during the regular season, beat Wichita State on the road, and took Mountain West champ New Mexico to OT.

I'm glad you're considering it.

tk13 03-17-2013 01:37 PM

I don't know... I thought they'd have trouble beating Ohio for the MAC title since their starting PG is suspended and Ohio still has DJ Cooper... but they whipped them. You think that would still hurt them in the tourney though. Can't imagine them making a run like Ohio did last year without their PG.

Ceej 03-17-2013 02:18 PM

Is the unveiling of the bracket at 5 or 6?

I thought it was 6pm CST.

Or is that Bracketology at 6pm CST?

Gottlieb just had a great segment on CBS. they read a tweet from Ole Miss' Henderson about Gottlieb saying they didn't deserve a bid. Gottlieb responds with a St Paddys cupcake and refers to Ole Miss' ooh schedule ranked 302 and scarfs down a bite.

Friggin hilarious.

Is there a more despised player in college basketball than Henderson?

Well, other than the Iowa State fans, who would say that belongs to Elijah Johnson LMAO

Henderson also said after the game that coaches who didn't vote him as SEC POY " are losers".

Goddamm... Wisconsin is just a tough team. I hate them cause they KO'd the Cats twice in the last 5 years. But they are a mentally tough team.

I hate watching Bo Ryan teams, but he does a great job of putting this team in a position to make a decent run in the tournament every year. Can't ask for much more in a coach.

I'd like to see them get as high as a 3 seed, though I know that's unlikely, even if they beat Ohio State. They have beaten some tough ****ing teams this year. A very impressive resume.

I wouldn't go that far... not yet, anyway. Outside of Kentucky last year, it's certainly heading towards parity on steroids like the NFL, and I've mentioned several times that I think that league has gone way downhill in the past several years. There's still plenty of good basketball, but teams just don't have that killer instinct these days, so shit like KU/TCU happens more and more.

Huh? David/Goliath happens every year. It's not a reflection of the state of college basketball. HJ is overly-opinionated on arbitrary BS. He's the Skip Bayless of CP.

It's slowly changing, but it definitely seems like there's more parity these days. Two 15 seeds won in the same tournament, and only 4 previous 15s had ever won a game. UConn went .500 in the Big East and won the NC against Butler. Sure, there was Villanova in '85 and Kansas in '88, and there are always 5/12 upsets, etc.... but, I'd be interested to see research on it, since the past few years have seemed crazier than normal. Like I said though, there's still plenty of good basketball being played, and some parity doesn't hurt anything.

He's also a fan of an SEC team, and if all games ended like their last one, he'd have a point.
