Your favorite Original NES Games

I picked up an original NES in a pristine box for $40 off Craigslist a couple of weeks ago... had to replace the 72 pin connector, but it was a simple process.

The NES is like brand new and you never have to blow! Woo hoo...

So far I've acquired:

Tecmo Bowl
Top Gun
Super Mario Bros 1 & 3
RBI Baseball
Mike Tyson's Punchout
Gold Zelda
Gold Link

And a few others I'm looking for...

Contra
Castlevania
Excite Bike
Wrestling
Metroid
Kid Icarus

Which were your favorites that I may be missing?

kcxiv 10-09-2012 12:35 AM

Bionic Commando, Bases Loaded, Double Dragon, Battle Toads, Gun Smoke (one of my all time favorites) Baseball Stars, but i would imagine it was more or less a great game because it stored records and stats. R.C Pro Am, Ghost and Goblins. GI Joe, Mega Man games, Ninja Gaiden, Super Dodge ball (fun ass game) \

Silock 10-09-2012 12:36 AM

Mario 2, T&C surf designs, Zelda, contra, excite bike, RBI baseball

Munson 10-09-2012 12:42 AM

Super Mario Bros
Contra
Excite Bike
Ninja Gaiden
Double Dragon
Mike Tyson's Punchout
Bases Loaded
Megaman
Duck Hunt
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

BigMeatballDave 10-09-2012 01:30 AM

2 was a giant turd.

nstygma 10-09-2012 01:52 AM

Yep, the top loaders. They are more expensive on the secondary market because they don't suffer the same 72 pin connector problems as the first gen NES.

2 was, in fact, a remake of the Japanese game "Doki Doki Panic". They just redid the character maps/sprites to make it look like Mario.

The "original" Mario 2 was too much like the first Super Mario Brothers, and it was quite a bit more difficult, so Nintendo of America thought it would not be popular here.

It was released with the SNES title Super Mario All-Stars as "The Lost Levels"

Good obscure game. I enjoyed the surfing part of it quite a bit. The skateboarding shit got hard.

Deberg_1990 10-09-2012 06:48 AM

Baseball Stars. Played it hours on end....

I believe it was the first game or one of the first games that kept running stats and a "franchise" type mode.

htismaqe 10-09-2012 06:51 AM

Baseball Stars and Tecmo SUPER Bowl.

Thousands of hours. Pounds of...okay, nevermind... :D

Dragon Warriors, all of them
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 3

QuikSsurfer 10-09-2012 07:04 AM

I have a top loader NES in my living room -- it gets used sparingly.

the list:
Gunsmoke
Burger Time
Little Nemo: Dream Master
Metroid
Super Mario Bros 1,2,3
Gauntlet
Star Force
Blaster Master
Excite Bike
Contra

Saulbadguy 10-09-2012 07:10 AM

Little Nemo was a great, underrated title. You felt juvenile as shit for playing it but it was really fun.

ROFL well yeah, that's true.
Game had great music and a good difficulty spike for those that stuck with it.

Final Fantasies were fun, Super Tecmo Bowl is way better than the first. RBI 2 is great.

You REALLY short-changed Koei there man. :D

Ro3K was the precursor to Dynasty Warriors - Koei's obsession with that period of Chinese history nearly became it's own genre of video games.

Pasta Little Brioni 10-09-2012 12:01 PM

The Romance of the 3 Kingdoms Series is ****ing awesome.

lcarus 10-09-2012 12:22 PM

It's already on your list, but Kid Icarus is probably my favorite NES game.

Arrow 10-09-2012 01:21 PM

Simon's Quest; River City Ransom; Star Tropics and Dragon Warrior III and IV.

Dragon Warrior 1 & 3 (two had these monsters that stole all you magic and stopped your advance)
Legend of Zelda 1 (2 was horrible and unwinnable without a game genie)
Duck Hunt
Kirby's Adventure
Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Dungeons and Dragons: Pool of Radiance

I played most of those games. I liked Ambition the best because it's shorter and I was really into samurai at the time.

LOL. True. But there is nothing like having the nintendo to put the actual cartridges in. heh.

I won the original Tecmo Bowl last night with the LA Raiders. Bo Jackson was just a complete badass. heh.

Have you played Just Cause 2? It's pretty much a 3D version of Bionic Commando with completely over-the-top action: grappling on to moving helicopters, hijacking fighter jets, free falling from thousands of feet, connecting enemy vehicles to trees via the grapple cable, etc. Tons of fun!

I got it off of Steam over the weekend for $15 (it came out in 2010).

They work better for NES games - some SNES games get kinda weird (audio is off or crappy, flickering, etc)

DJJasonp 10-09-2012 07:05 PM

RC Pro AM, Tecmo (BO!!!), Batman, Castlevania, Baseball Stars....wasnt there an Ultima game on NES?

Anyone play Friday the 13th? Not a great game....but really hard, and funny!
