Mock draft (9/24/12)
Against all hope, I expect the Chiefs will sign Albert during the season and tag Bowe again.
Like I did with Brandon Carr, I will continue to assume we will let Dorsey walk. To replace him, the Chiefs try out Poe at DE, and start Powe at the nose. I also anticipate us letting Peyton Hillis walk. We'll replace him by taking another one-year flyer on a backup everybody thinks is broken down in Rashard Mendenhall. Quinn is also allowed to walk. Belcher and Siler will both walk. To replace him, we sign a bigger, more versatile, more talented ILB in Daryl Smith of the Jaguars. For depth, Larry Foote or some similar out-and-out vet is scooped up for a one-year deal as he finds he has nowhere he can go. Toribio, resigned for a couple years. Lucas Patterson is kept as a reserve. Travis Daniels kept on as a safety. The Chiefs finish 6-10, and miss the playoffs. They will be picking at #9. They get a 3rd round compensatory pick for Brandon Carr, and a 6th round compensatory pick for Kyle Orton. 1. QB Tyler Wilson, Arkansas Just for kicks, let's go to the imaginary world where Bray declares, and Wilson somehow falls to #9. The Chiefs don't have to give away anything. 2. RB Montee Ball, Wisconsin Finally, a long-term compliment to Charles who does not have an injury history. 3. OLB Brandon Jenkins, Florida State Out for the year with an injury. Maybe this helps him fall. 3 (Carr). CB Desmond Trufant, Washington A bit of a project, but he has good size and amazing athleticism. Good man coverage prospect. 4. FS/CB Prentiss Waggner, Tennessee Is more of a zone guy, but is smart, versatile, and has shown some propensity to play angles really well. 5. OG Blaze Foltz, TCU Mainly because his name is Blaze. 6. QB Mike Glennon, North Carolina State Underrated prospect with great size and a good arm. 6 (Orton). ILB Christian Robinson, Georgia Get some more talent in here from Georgia's talented 3-4 defense. 7. FB Zach Boren, Ohio State Good blocker, good receiver out of the backfield. |
QB: Wilson, Cassel, Stanzi vs. Glennon
RB: Charles, Mendenhall, Ball, Gray, Draughn FB: Boren WR: Bowe, Baldwin, Breaston, McCluster, Wylie, Copper TE: Moeaki, Boss, Maneri LT: Albert, Stephenson LG: Allen, Foltz C: Hudson, Patterson RG: Asamoah, Foltz RT: Winston, Stephenson DE: Poe, Bailey NT: Powe, Toribio DE: Jackson, Smith OLB: Hali, Jenkins ILB: Smith, Robinson ILB: Johnson, Robinson OLB: Houston, Studebaker CB: Flowers, Routt, Arenas, Trufant, Brown S: Berry, Lewis, Waggner, Menzie K: Succop P: Colquitt LS: Gafford |
I like the Ball pick.
I think you would have to get Jenkins in the second. I think you need more SEC but it is not bad. |
Cut Cassel and Stanzi. Re-sign all FA's besides Dorsey and Quinn.
1) Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia 2) Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia 3) Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma 4) EJ Manuel, QB, Florida State 5) Mike Glennon, QB, N.C. State 6) Collin Klein, QB, Kansas State 7) Jordan Rodgers, QB, Vanderbilt May the best 3 win. |
Like all the picks except Montee Ball.
Montee Ball is overrated and I think the Chiefs are fine at RB even when Hillis is gone. I also can't see the Chiefs tagging Bowe again. They need to either shit or get off the pot. |
2nd is too early for Ball, but I'd take him in the 3rd.
Nice vision, I just don't see him doing anything particularly well. He's not strong, he's not fast, he's not real nimble. He's just smart. Smart RBs become decent 3rd down backs and have nice, long careers as backups. They don't get drafted in the 2nd round though. Oh, and Tyler Wilson isn't very good, but if he's the best QB on the board I'd take him. I hope he isn't. |

What team is going to challenge us for a QB? The only teams that I can think of are all maybes: 1. Oakland: Palmer is getting old, but is still playing well so far, plus they gave up HOW much for him!?! 2. Jets: maybe depending on Sanchez's performance, and even still they have Jesus backing him up 3. Bills 4. Cards: but Kolb is playing pretty damn well right now 5. Jags: Gabbert may not pan out. 6. Eagles: more and more likely Vick is going to ride pine by the end of the season, but Philly fans are screaming for Nick Foles The rest of the teams either have a franchise QB, drafted one last year, or have one that they aren't willing to toss out with the trash yet. We are the ONLY team in the NFL that has a GLARING need at QB right now. Am I missing any other teams? |
