The CFB Bowl selections are tonight, 8:30 on ESPN.

Reason I started this thread... New York Times' Pete Thamel is reporting that a source tells him Northern Illinois slipped into the top 16 and will play in the Orange Bowl against Florida State. ESPN's BCS guru Brad Edwards says he thinks NIU is in too.

Either way, bowl selections are starting to leak this afternoon.

Oklahoma is out. Sad.

BREAKING: Northern Illinois vs Florida State is official in the Orange Bowl, according to a source.

I think that's awesome, although I don't think it's going to end well for them.

I wasn't sure they were going to make it, thought (ironically) that they might end up just outside the bubble thanks to Boise State.

I didn't think they'd make it either... but they probably have a better shot than Kent State would have. NIU has a dual threat QB who can at least cause some havoc out there.

Looks like Georgia is going to get Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl. From five yards away from the national championship game to the Capital One Bowl.

Yep. They got punished for beating UF on the road and taking Alabama to the brink. The almighty BCS got 2 unranked teams and a Mac team to play in their games this year.

So long as the Cats play K-State football and not try to match Oregon's offense attempting to play Oregon ball.

Otherwise it will be Baylor all over again.

Hoping my Sun Devils get the Las Vegas Bowl and not the Albuerqueque Bowl.

Nothing against NI but that's not a game I'm remotely interested in watching. Their inclusion is a joke. They beat no one of substance and in fact lost to a 4 win Big Ten also ran (Iowa). I caught some that MAC CCG and to put it bluntly they stink.

I was actually looking forward to Oklahoma vs Florida.

With that much time to prepare I'm sure the old man will have them playing much better on defense than they did against Baylor.

Bill Snyder doesn't have a stellar record in games where both teams have extra time to prepare.

Probably another all-SEC NC game, but head and shoulders above this crap.

8 teams is too many. 4 is plenty to determine a legit NC. #5 ranked team doesn't usually have much of a gripe relatively speaking.

#1 ND vs #4 Ore
#2 Ala vs #3 Fla

The best team in the country is one of those 4. Probably #2 or #3.

#5 got bombed by an also ran and dutifully exposed relatively speaking.

Not that we need to worry about that. Don't forget to set your DVR for what should be an epic OB! Not to mention what it does to the Sugar Bowl, swapping out what would be Fla/OU for Fla/Louisville <--------zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

The BCS is a laughingstock.

Defense is not my main concern. My concern is playing the ball control offense that will limit UO's high powered offense's opportunities.

Really amazed S Illinois got a BCS bid. That is a team that got beat by the worst Iowa team in over a decade, and barely beat a 1 win Kansas team. They are not good. The Boise States of the world at least passed the eye test but the Salukis look mediocre.

That was hillarious, they were scared to play in state Louisiana Monroe so declined it and now are left out.

Also, shouldn't the B1G have to forfeit their auto bid this year since their best teams are ineligible? It doesn't seem right that a neutered conference should still be treated the same as if they were intact.

If a team that would have otherwise qualified to compete in the title game can't because they are ineligible, the auto bid should go away. If the Rose Bowl still wants Wisconsin, they could grab them as an at large.

How pissed are FSU fans? They had to play a poor 6-6 Ga Tech team in the ACC championship, and their reward for winning is the right to play a poor Northern Illinois team in the Orange Bowl. I bet ticket sales will be amazing for that thrilling matchup...

Not many interesting matchups this year and a ton of crap teams playing bowl games. I hope the playoff and selection committee beginning in 2014 will finally start matching the best teams up against each other.

...and people are already trying to put caveats into the playoff format. Instead of saying "let's get the four best teams" and leaving it at that, people want to add "as long as we don't take more than one from any conference".

It's insane.
