Anyone know if this game controls like GTA IV, or if it has an actual usable control scheme? I've always hated the controls for GTA, and I'm not sure I could deal with it in yet another game. I hope the MP is a huge improvement over GTA, as well...

I'm tempted to grab this, but Rockstar is an overrated studio, IMHO. For me, the GTA games are some of the most overrated in history. I know a lot of people love them, but I think they're average at best, which has me questioning RDR...

GTA 3 was absolutely revolutionary and glorious at the time. It was literally blowing people's minds. Vice City was amazing because it improved upon every aspect of it's predecessor. Everything after that has been meh because it lost its awesome sandbox appeal. That's just my opinion. I'm still getting this game because sandbox in Wild West = win.

My problem with the GTA games has always been that they make running around and killing shit too much fun. I never get around to actually completing the missions that I'm supposed to.

i have been getting text messages from friends asking me about this game. I am the only real gamer that i know and folks are interested in this game. they are hearing about it from TV. Take-Two opened up the money bags for marketing on this.

I'll wait and see what people think first. I am not big on Sandbox games at all. AT ALL.

you ever beat it/kill the albino animals and unlock the war horse and gatling gun? freaking god mode, man. too bad you couldn't do another play-through with them, though. that would've been cheesy fun (like the resident evil freebies--ever go through the one with the chicago typewriter with unlimited ammo or the rocket launcher with unlimited ammo? fun as hell)

Picked this up at lunch and was hoping to see someone say how awesome it is. Guess I'll find out for myself here in about an hour.

One bit of advice...when you're galloping your horse willie nillie across the mesa watch out for cliffs. It appears you can survive gun shot wounds but not a 1000 foot fall.

Just a little into it and this really is GTA4 in Wild West, lol. Fell off a cliff myself during the race with Miss whatever her name is. Not liking the horse controls too much right now (turning at slow speeds seems to be a bitch), but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

This game is the shit. Got it for PS3. Sorry to my 360 followers (Metro, Kraus) you'll have to play without me unfortunately.

There's a mission and then it's a hunting challenge. The gun play is VERY satisfying in this game, BTW. From shooting raccoons to bad dudes, it's all very fun. I was honestly expecting the game to be set a little earlier, was surprised when the opening sequence included a car. I guess it's set in the early 1900's.

I wasn't able to access the multiplayer modes last night. Maybe the servers were down/overwhelmed. Did anybody else have this problem?

they were probably down, i couldnt put in my codes for a while, kept saying rockstar servers were down. I do now have my golden Guns, which wow, they are gold guns. lol

I was pleased with it so far.
The Dead Eye mode or whatever it's called (slo-mo) is pretty bad ass

I liked the original Red Dead Revolver; although a bit repetitive. Not sure if Rockstar was running it back then, but still fun.

It wasn't made by Rockstar. They purchased the rights to the game. I don't remember who made the first one.

If you look in the upper-left hand corner of the map, it gives the year. Something like 1911, if I remember correctly.

And as far as horse controls go, I'm hoping it becomes tighter the more you ride. Kind of like driving in GTA: San Andreas. After riding the same horse for a while last night, I got message stating that I had bonded with the horse and it's endurance went up. Hopefully there will be more bonuses as you ride more.

just go pi9ck it up and get it. Free Roam with friends is a blast. WE had to go into a mine and steal the gold cart. It was a blast. I had 2 guys covering me, while i was pushing the mine cart full of gold.. So much fun.

On free roam and am trying to destroy weapons caches. Running around and my character turns invisible. Goes in and out of invisibility. Then I go to plant some explosives and everything just gets stuck. Got to restart. Damn glitchy so far.

I got it Tuesday morning and played about 2 hours at work, I lent it to someone thinking I wouldn't play tonight but :cuss: I want to play it now! oh well. Only played SP so far. really cool. Nice lighting and the horses look awesome. Having a bit of a tough time staying "on the rail" in terms of story mode. Too many side missions. I've got to stop talking to strangers.
Sounds like I'd better get on MP soon before the weekend or else by the time I get on I'll be too outgunned to even have a good time.

No, but it is supposed to look and run better on the 360. Not by a wide margin, though.

I picked it up yesterday. Usually I have to sort of sell the wife on a new game at $60 etc, but not this time. It helped that I told the wife that it was made by the same folks who produced GTA etc. She loved GTAIV & Vice City etc. So she was immediately on board.

I wasn't able to play it for too long (had to make dinner; let dogs out; watch LOST (which was recorded from last night, but I didn't get to watch it) etc). But, I was able to Logged a good hour or two.

So far, very fun. Very addicting; it reminded me of my GTA addiction when they came out. In fact, I was reminded I need to get GTAIV for my PS3 at some point. At the time it came out, I had just picked it up, and my 360 went belly up about 2 days later– this was the 3rd 360 in 24 months to do so. At that point I switched to PS3 (Thank god), but never replenished my GTAIV, or the POS 360.

Anyway..
The graphics were awesome; the animation is great. The main character has a cool gate/walk, horses come across very real looking. Voice-overs are pretty cool – they seem to match the characters they’re playing.
I’m loving the whole ‘honor’ meter thing. On one mission where I had to get a land deed, I could’ve taken the deed by force, or bought it. I was about $30 short, so I went out and hunted for skins and meat, then bought the deed. It tapped me out, but when I delivered the deed, I got my $200 back, plus $25. Cool.

As others have mentioned, I’ve gotta quick talking to strangers! I get sidetracked too often – but that’s part of the fun. Very early in the game I heard screaming etc, and saw two bad guys robbing a lady so I thought I’d be cool and rescue her by shooting them. Bad idea; just like in GTA, my wanted level (Bounty, in this case) went up and I was pursued heavily by the law. Not to mention my ‘honor’ took a hit. I thought it was cool that you could reconcile your bounty $; I had about $50 in bounty against me, which I later settled by wiring $50 to the law. Pretty cool concept.

When I opened the game, I couldn’t believe how huge the map was! Lol. I can’t wait to get to the other areas of the map. I like the concept of setting up camp to save the game right there (instead of going back to a safehouse etc), and the ability to sort of jump/travel to unlocked sections of the map. This will come in handy when you get various territories unlocked and save you from a 10 minute horse ride to the other side of the map.

As usual for Rockstar/GTA type games, there were lots of cool interactive side games; namely POKER! Pretty cool to play a few hands to try to quickly earn some money. Of course, the first hand the guy beat my King high frush, with an Ace High frush.

Had a B*tch of a time aiming/shooting with this game. Nothing like MW2 like I’m used to (obviously), so it’ll take some getting used to. Also, only have 8 rounds or so for the rifle before reloading; and 6 for you pistol will take some getting used to as well!

Managed to get bitten by a rattlesnake, and attacked by a coyote; bastards.

Like the idea of looting bodies you taken out; nice to replenish ammo and sometimes find some cash.
Can’t wait to play it tonight; and the Wife is out of town this weekend – I might have to procure a ton of beer and log some serious time on the game.

Hopefully in 6-12 months this will hit PC.

But I'm not holding my breath.
