It would have been a 55 yard throw. That's doable. If he didn't, why not run a hook and ladder?

OK.. The ball hit the ground it moved. I guess this is one of the first times I've seen those two situations overruled by the opinion that he maintained control of the ball.

Either way, Atlanta loses.. That's good with me...

my point was that the ball can hit the ground, but the receiver has to keep control.

Look at that last play, you're telling me that a quick route couldn't have been ran? He ****ing FLOATED the ball 30 yards to Julio Jones and the clock didn't run out till Jones came down with the ball.

Are you really going to say that a 5 yard out couldn't have been ran in 3-4 seconds?

The rule of thumb is 8 seconds per play. You'd run the risk of getting tackled in bounds for a 5-10 yard gain and not even have a chance to throw it downfield.

They were pretenders all along just like the Texans.

They hadn't really played anyone.

This game should have been Seattle/San Fran not the Failclowns.

Hootie 01-20-2013 05:07 PM

I will say

assuming the Pats win

I bet the 49ers are favored in the Super Bowl...and that's saying something considering Vegas always loads up their lines

How could you root against one of the best players in Chiefs history for wanting out of a rebuild?

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-20-2013 05:08 PM

Atlanta's actually in a rough spot. Their QB is really good but has a penchant for making poor decisions in bad spots. Their defense is awful, and their coach has a good record, but he's a terrible in-game coach. The owner would be looked at as a nut if he demanded that a change occur, but I don't think that team can win it all as constructed. This year was a perfect storm of down years and great luck and it still wasn't enough.

They actually need to fire Smith and make significant investment in the front seven, because Dimitroff's defensive picks have underwhelmed significantly.

cdcox 01-20-2013 05:08 PM

Really nice game by the '49ers. Falcons shut out in the second half.

gblowfish 01-20-2013 05:08 PM

NFL is already selling "49er NFC Champions" gear. Man. It's been five minutes.

Somewhere in some third world country, little Mubutu will be wearing his Atlanta NFC Champions T-shirt and hat....

Hootie 01-20-2013 05:09 PM

and if the 49ers are favored...and it will be by 3 or less

everyone will load up on the Pats and I bet Vegas doesn't shift the line

I know Vegas will like San Fran. They represent a really, really, really bad matchup for the Patriots (as evidenced at Foxboro a few weeks back)

I'll admit that these playoffs are making a fool of me. I've been whining all season that the NFL is nothing but a quarterback derby any more, and the team with the best quarterback wins. Nearly every playoff game has been won by the team with the weaker quarterback.

I agree with a lot of this BUT they were a trip away from being in position to win the NFC Championship game.

you simply can't make that change...you can hope that Mike Smith grows some balls, though.

I mean, did anyone really think the game was over after they went up 17-0?

I know I didn't.
