Tony Gonzalez is in...Thannon Tharpe/Marino are out

NFL studio crew for CBS. Big shakeup, per 810. Didn't take Gonzalez long.

Eleazar 02-18-2014 11:31 AM

No more mushmouth? This is the best news I've heard all day.

COchief 02-18-2014 11:35 AM

Ha, just like the record books. Gonzo just can't stop knocking Sharpe off his pedestal.

hawkchief 02-18-2014 11:35 AM

Worried Marino might go slit his wrists - guy always seems pissed off before, this can't be good news for him.

DMAC 02-18-2014 11:36 AM

Might actually watch a pre game show then!

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 02-18-2014 11:39 AM

The chin should have been first to go

Eleazar 02-18-2014 11:39 AM

As much as I disliked Thannon Tharpe on the show, I still never watched Howie and Terry over them. I would prefer a swift kick to watching the Fox crew

notorious 02-18-2014 11:41 AM

The only thing that Gonzalez isn't going to take from Sharpe are his Super Bowl rings.

RealSNR 02-18-2014 11:41 AM

BlackHelicopters 02-18-2014 11:41 AM

Glad for Tony. Good riddance Thannon.

I think he's replacing Marino as the ringless douchebag.

Sharpe is just getting fired for being awful on TV.

Mother****erJones 02-18-2014 11:45 AM

WhiteWhale 02-18-2014 11:51 AM

I remember when pregame shows weren't just a bunch of retired has-beens talking over each other.

BlackHelicopters 02-18-2014 11:53 AM

Is Thannon's glove collection handed down to Tony?

Jimmya 02-18-2014 11:59 AM

By horse face!

OrtonsPiercedTaint 02-18-2014 12:01 PM

I bet sharpe shows up somewhere else & Marino joins the Fins in some capacity. I hope Tony Gonzales does not use this as a stage for his causes. PETA etc.

He's still got that badass Nutrisystem's contract. And he might try to revive that Isotoner endorsement deal.

Marino added nothing. At least Thannon was fun to make fun of.

ThaVirus 02-18-2014 12:50 PM

I'm not hating but Marino didn't add much at all. He's just not a good TV guy; he has no personality.

Shannon was "colorful" but his speech is just not TV-worthy and neither is a Bill Cowher's.

I understand the need for continuity but they could have just scrapped everyone but JB and Boomer.

-King- 02-18-2014 12:55 PM

I don't know how you guys even watch pregame shows.

Only way ill ever watch a pregame show is if they get the guys from Inside The NBA guys go do it.

Its easy to watch pregame. For me in California thats like 9am 930 in the morning. I make my breakfast then eat it while the pregame is on.

I agree. The day I got a DVR was the day I stopped watching pregames shows, commercials, and halftime shows. f

Agree 100%....

That guy is a football moron... His takes are as outdated as his coaching style...

Meh...i could care less about TG...the good news is Sharpe is gone.

Lightrise 02-18-2014 05:05 PM

The pregame shows on both CBS and Fox are not watchable. Tony won't make them watchable either. Only the NFL channel can do this anymore. Marino never contributed a thing in my view, though Sharpe is easy to dislike, mostly from his playing days, he still managed to focus on things that were more credible than anybody else had to say.

I think the most interesting commentary comes from Kurt Warner on the NFL channel and also the Playbook crew. Frankly the only way to save the CBS and Fox shows is to focus more on what GM types have to say, perhaps a sports reporter or two on a rotating basis and maybe a draft guru, someone to expose those that are failing and highlighting those succeeding and fool around with the rumor mill more.

In both shows nobody, and I mean nobody, manages to make me laugh. The attempts to be funny, while desired, falls hopelessly flat.

there's a lot of fluff and you'd think that these networks would figure out that the audience isnt as stupid as they think it is. Either way, the NFLN is catering to minorities and women so they are gonna be all about that.

I think women really are the main audience the NFL wants to cater too. It's really weird.

Strange comment. Do you eat pizza without beer?

Why Not? 02-18-2014 05:25 PM

Pre-game shows are lame. Before the game log in to CP, fap to T-post Tom's avatar, then watch the game. Win

Reerun_KC 02-18-2014 05:34 PM

Maybe tony can win something on tv, cause he cant win anything on the football field

Marino started terrible, but I thought he ended up decent the last couple years. This is all about issues away from camera.

Thannon Tharpe “Thad and Dithappointed” to be out at CBS

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...be-out-at-cbs/

CBS announced Tuesday that Tony Gonzalez is the newest commentator on The NFL Today, and Shannon Sharpe and Dan Marino won’t return. Unsurprisingly, Sharpe isn’t thrilled about that.

Sharpe told Mike Klis of the Denver Post that he would have liked to stay on CBS, but he appreciates the network hiring him after he retired from playing in 2003.

“There’s no way I would ever complain,” Sharpe said. “Am I sad and disappointed? Absolutely. But I’m grateful for the 10 years they did give me. They gave me the opportunity when I had no broadcasting experience. So I’m forever grateful what they did for me. I’ll be fine.”

Sharpe said he could simply retire, but he expects to return to television somewhere.
“I’m going to work because I want to not because I have to. I can be a little more picky,” he said. “I don’t have to rush into anything because I’m under no financial strain or obligation. I’m going to weigh all my options.”

Sharpe is good enough on TV that he’ll surely find work, but there probably won’t be any options that come with as big a platform as Sharpe had at CBS.

Is this reporter smoking crack or did he not watch the same crap from CBS and Thannon as the rest of us?

PunkinDrublic 02-19-2014 03:30 PM

That would be cool if they made him put on receiver gloves that say you're fired.

BlackHelicopters 02-19-2014 04:18 PM

Tharpe will find a radio gig with that smooth voice he has.
