NFL APOLOGY POLICE CONTACT CHIEFS
League Apologizes To Chiefs For Penalty Against Fullback
by Frank Pagnotti

The Pittsburgh Steelers now know that they aren't the only team the NFL apologizes to. Kansas City Chiefs FB Tony Richardson said the Chiefs have received a letter from the league office saying he was wrongly penalized 15-yards for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in last weekend's loss to the previously winless San Diego Chargers according to the Kansas City Star. Richardson spiked the ball in excitement at the conclusion of the play, drawing the penalty. The penalty could have been a deciding factor in the loss.

"They said there was no justification for the call," Richardson said. "We looked at it on film, and...there was nobody out in front of me."

I sure the Steelers would agree, a lot of freakin' good it does to apoligize !

On this one I would agree with what my wife always says, 'You should never be in a situation in which one play could cost you the game'.

In only rare accasions I would disagree with this comment.

How about the 2 quick whistles in last night's game that were clearly fumbles, but were not reveiwable because the player was ruled down by contact. Those where BS calls.

I called this one as well, it was obvious that there was going to be some apology coming down the line. This says more about be able to fine refs...

Of course I should add that last night we had 2 quick down by contact calls, that were both clear fumbles, even after the refs had been told to let the play go longer in such cases. Something needs to be fixed, and that is all there is to it.

Bob Dole takes great comfort in reading validation of what every other sentient human being watching the game already knew.

Brian K.,
You're correct in stating that the apology is useless as far as thw W / L columns, but it does serve to vindicate Tony Richardson.
He is the LAST man in the NFL to be called for taunting. He is the standard for personal behavior in the NFL.
