Weird Brandon Meriweather Shooting Story

So there is a story developing in Florida that Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather shot two people.

http://www.nesn.com/2011/03/brandon-...n-florida.html

The gist of the story is that Meriweather and a friend went into a bar in Florida in the town where they grew up. The friend administered some kind of beat down on a woman. Later, the woman's brother and a friend of his showed up at the house and started administering a beat down on Meriweather's friend. Meriweather then shoots them, grazing the brother and hitting the other guy in the head.

Boston idiot radio is all over this this morning, as you would expect. Weird facts:

1. the alleged shooting occurred February 27, or 11 days ago now.

2. an attorney for the victims confirmed he's been hired by the victims and that Meriweather was the shooter.

3. both the local police and hte county police, when contacted by Boston sports talk shows, confirmed that they have NO active investigations involving Brandon Meriweather. Not the usual "we can't comment on any ongoing investigations", but that there are NO SUCH INVESTIGATIONS currently.

4. No arrests were made, apparently, in connection with this incident.

WTF?!?

It's interesting to note that Meriweather was involved in another shooting in 2006, before he was drafted. He shot at some guy, but missed. The police determined that his firearm was legally registered and had been used in self-defense, so no charges were pressed.

I would think that when they went to a hospital the hospital reported the gunshot wounds to the police. Don't most hospitals do that? If so, it seems like the police would have some kind of file they want to close.
Unless people just get shot all the time in Florida and the cops don't have time to check them all. Or they were somehow able to treat themselves, and if that's the case I would say there must be a lot more to the story. If you're hiding gunshot wounds you're hiding a lot more than that.

There was a thread about this on a Buccaneers message board on Tuesday. Didn't name names, but this adds credibility to that now.

It's on Deadspin now, too.

Deadspin is the source, really. Some radio guy in Tampa broke the story, and it got picked up by Deadspin, which is how it's really been disseminated.

You would think. These same questions have sports talk radio up here in a tizzy.

The shooting in 2006 was related to a guy trying to break into their house in college. He popped off a couple of rounds. His roommate was capped in the butt by a guy sneaking around the side of their house.
